Neuroplasticity at It's Best
Reviewed: 09-04-18
Dr. Doidge writes very well. The descriptions are beautifully done. The information about the most important organ in the body is for everyone to know in plain terms. Whether remotely interested in how the brain works & changes, I consider this a "must read" for everyone. Discoveries which I consider a new frontier easily & plainly written in book form. The reader does a beautiful job.

Story
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells - taken without her knowledge - became one of the most important tools in medicine: The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, which are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years. HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

Wonderful Beautifully Written Story
Reviewed: 09-04-18
As a medical doctor with a biochemistry background, I had heard of "Hela" cells but had no clue as to the origin of the name. The story is beautifully written. It is very informative and a true "page turner". The reader is exceptional. Even without the scientific/medical setting, the story is amazing. Ethics & legal concerns are appropriately addressed. In would recommend the book to anyone, regardless of background. The story & writing are exceptionally composed.

Healing the Shame That Binds You is the most enduring work of family relationship expert and New York Times best-selling author John Bradshaw. In it, he shows how unhealthy toxic shame, often learned young and maintained into adulthood, is the core component in our compulsions, co-dependencies, addictions and drive to superachieve.

Good, But Not As Good As Homecoming !
Reviewed: 06-15-16
Would you listen to Healing the Shame That Binds You again? Why?
No. A bit dry and boring in comparison to Homecoming & Bradshaw's other books.
Who was your favorite character and why?
No particular character. This is a book on information.
What about John Pruden’s performance did you like?
Good reader.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"Healing Shame"
Any additional comments?
Good book, just not as helpful as some of Bradshaw's other books. He seems to have become much less spiritual in his approach to healing.

Story
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?
