Story
I’m a Nightmare, a creature that feeds on fear, and I’m capable of boundless cruelty—which is why my services come at a steep price: the life of the person who hired me. As such, the only people who hire me on are those brought to me by fate, like Mina, a woman so desperate for revenge that she’s willing to spend her own life to get it. I don’t usually care why I’m hired. Human affairs don’t matter to me. Food is food, and a job is a job. Mina’s enemies will get what they deserve—and I’ll get what’s mine. Her beating heart.

I picked because of the narrators
Reviewed: 02-10-25
I don't normally listen to historical romance, but I love the two narrators. I gave this a try for that reason. They were great, and made the story come alive and was very enjoyable.

the OBrian tales are my favorite family series. true to life not always happy. But they get through it all together. This story give a glimpse of the suffering of women in the fifties in a pointed manner. In a way we should all be thinking about. Keep the tissues ready.
Hopefully Corra Murphy will have a book soon.

Story
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

never judge by appearances

this is a great retelling of the Beauty and the Beast story. I like the older sister explaining to her little sister why she is silly. Also, the beast stayed in the form Bryony fell in love with, reinforces the appearances don't make the man. Makes more sense, and more of a positive impact.
