Existing within a virtual world shared across millions of users while they sleep, the online game, Carpe Noctem, offers a life of magic and adventure. For a scruffy gunslinger like Max, and a snarky fairy like Kira, it’s home. Unfortunately, Noctem’s creator, and unhinged genius, has been fired. Barely any intensity in the book.

Very engaging and emotional ride!

The series overall gives a sense of acceptance of one's own personal mindsets.
Example questioning who you really are inside. The inner turmoil of not knowing what you love.
I love the connections and inner conflicts between each character.
There is a lot of tropes but can be forgiven. Good guy is about to do something very evil but is talked out of it as an example.
I am looking forward to the continuation of this series. I love it.

Story
After his town is put to the sword and the children are taken to replace the fallen, an old man is out for revenge. He’s ready to fail at the most difficult challenge in the world: cultivation. Too corrupted to even take the first steps, the sly old elder simply agreed with those who told him that it was impossible. Then he quietly ignored them, rubbed his hands together, and started anyway.

The story is great! I loved it. Especially when it comes together in places. The characters are lovable and remembarable.
The only downside is the deep depth the cultivation system and ranking system are. I personally didn't mind it. But had to rewind it a few times to let it click into places. But once you get the systems everything is great.

Story
I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

Huge fan of Travis Baldree!

The story overall is great. I personally enjoy overpowered MCs. So this was nice for me.
The only complaint is the typical anime trope. That kids are the huge decision makers. Albeit the MC isn't technically a kid. But the other kids senn to be more responsible than their adult counterparts.
Anyways! Travis Baldree, amazing job as always! Brings me into the story.
Highly recommend! Off to the next 2 books!
