About this listen

Noctem is a dream come true. Dreams don’t last forever. Nightmares might.

The first three books in the Pixel Dust series, full of fantasy adventure!

Existing within a virtual world shared across millions of users while they sleep, the online game, Carpe Noctem, offers a life of magic and adventure. For a scruffy gunslinger like Max, and a snarky fairy like Kira, it’s home.

Unfortunately, Noctem’s creator, and unhinged genius, has been fired. On his way out, he slapped a doomsday button to bring the system crashing down and send the global economy into ruin.

To save their second home, Max and Kira will need to assemble a party of misfits to conquer a quest of nightmares, and discover the secrets that lurk within the game.

If they fail, they’ll lose more than they can imagine… but winning has its own price.

In all seriousness, this series is fantastic. I put it above just about every LitRPG I've read. Fun and intriguing prose, likeable and believable characters, a plot that isn't centered around the protag's ego, and best of all - it's all 'round blast to listen to. I love how LGBT positive the book is and how it can get specific viewpoints across without being offensive or "brushing off" someone's view, and it never feels preachy. I think there's maybe 4 parts in the entire SERIES that lists off full-stat reads. You don't need that junk to have a fun RPG read. I can't praise this series enough. And as an omnibus it's an absolute steal!

FINALLY! A LitRPG without stat monologues!

The characters in this book felt more real and relatable than most other characters in similar genres. There is plenty of character growth and flaws that make them more personable to many aspects of life. All while not losing the appeal of a fantasy world. This has been one of the more unique stories I’ve heard, and the narrator does a fantastic job pulling me in and keeping me immersed.

Felt real/relatable

Although I lucked out and got all three books for one credit, now that I've listened, I would have gladly bought then individually and kept coming back for more. This series was highly entertaining and very intriguing in the sense that this tech is theoretically possible... Like the Black Mirror series on Netflix...

I became invested in the fate of this gang of misfits, and I really want to know how this story progresses. Super entertaining, and highly recommended!

Like others, I think it maybe came up on my suggested list because of Travis Baldree's involvement. He delivers another great cast of performances.

Really really enjoyed these books.

Highly recommend!!!

i enjoyed this series no op mc just a group of friends that get a quest they are kinda forced into that leaves them to other adventures. like in the second book that i call a crime of the century book. an the third is a search for a lost person book . does have some sex talk in it so that could turn away some readers. my only con is i see there has not been a book out for awhile an book 3 ends with some mysteries not solved yet so i hope another comes out to finish the series

like 3 books in one

Not gonna lie I mostly bought the story because I enjoyed other works the narrator did. But I’ll say I did love the story that was read . I’m not some deep critic so I’m not gonna go In depth with my review. Please DAVID write the next book!! I need moreee

I’m so invested in this story! I understand why the author moved on to his other series. But I hope he returns to this. It’s fantastic.

Love it!

Loved it! Travis Baldree killed it as usual. The story line kept me listening and dreading the end. Where is book 4?!?!?! It's been 2 years. This omnibus was so worth the credit. I wait with baited breath for the next one. This is one of the few I would pay for. The author did a great job of investing you in the characters without going overboard in the game or RL. I want to know more. I want to know what happens next. That's the hallmark of a good series. I have a few series to catch up on. I hope this one as available by the time I'm done. Publisher's shouldn't allow long wait times when they ask us to invest on a series. it causes you to lose faith in an author regardless of how good they are and this was definitely good. Don't make us wait too long please 🙏.

Entertaining from beginning to end.

I really enjoyed this series even though I originally didn’t really think I would like. This is mainly due to it being so, underwhelming in the concepts it brings to its system. It’s system is just the same thing as the Nova Terra series, which in my opinion did it far better. However the thing this series does well and does better than most series I’ve read is in its character development. It’s rare to see a series have its characters question not only their morals but their very identities. The author loves his world but he loves his characters even more and it really shows in how he writes them.

Great! Waiting for more

The story is more about sexual drama and the game side of the things is more of a conduit for the plot to happen most of the time at least. There were ups and downs throughout with some weird moments and some plot holes. To be honest if it wasn't for how much I liked the narrator I probably wouldn't have like it but as it stands I think its alright.

Its alright
