About this listen

Noctem is a dream come true. Dreams don’t last forever. Nightmares might.

The first three books in the Pixel Dust series, full of fantasy adventure!

Existing within a virtual world shared across millions of users while they sleep, the online game, Carpe Noctem, offers a life of magic and adventure. For a scruffy gunslinger like Max, and a snarky fairy like Kira, it’s home.

Unfortunately, Noctem’s creator, and unhinged genius, has been fired. On his way out, he slapped a doomsday button to bring the system crashing down and send the global economy into ruin.

To save their second home, Max and Kira will need to assemble a party of misfits to conquer a quest of nightmares, and discover the secrets that lurk within the game.

If they fail, they’ll lose more than they can imagine… but winning has its own price.

David Petrie and Travis Baldree do it again!

I just want to thank the both of you! The characters in this book feel so real. The combination of David's writing and Travis' narration truly brought these characters to life for me. I felt as if I was right there beside them sharing in their success and heartache. Well worth the listen and I can't wait until the fourth book!

Fantastic!

Travis Baldree is amazing, as always. But, I think this series made me fall in love with GameLit. It wasn't too much of anything. The balance of storyline, game mechanics, and everything I between was just right to paint a complete picture without me getting bored. Even plot points designed for use later didn't seem obvious, they just seemed like game mechanics or humans being human. So, the plot twists are interesting, but also feel natural and not forced at all. Can't wait for book 4!

Loved it. only issue is it stops at three books for now and not clear what the wait is for more books.

Incredible series with diverse characters and unique ideas

This is an incredible series and is very unique to the genre. I have yet to find a series beyond this one with characters who I have connected with on such a deep level. I really feel for their struggles and I'm fully emotionally invested in the story line. They are each unique and so well developed – each of them has their own thoughts, feelings and personality that is clearly demonstrated by the author in such a way that makes you feel deeply for them. The game mechanics are also something different and enjoyable, and I love how these books are not filled with pages of stats, which can get exhausting. There is so much that I love about these books and I am waiting desperately for the next one to come out in hopes that it will be sooner than later. I can't say enough about this series. The narrator is also incredible and one of my favorites . He has great inflection and can really add the appropriate emotion to various situations, along with a great range of voices. I was hooked!

FINISHED ALL THREE!

I have to admit as much as I love Digby and his group in the Necrotic Apocalypse series I think i like this series a bit more 😁 I want to address another review I saw titled "Gross" I'm not sure if it's a serious review since they gave 5 stars to performance and story but no this box set is definitely NOT entirely about sexuality/genders and having sex with a weird murder guy like at all. I'm assuming the reviewer is referring to something that happens in book 2 that was more of a humourous plot point that was/wasn't really that serious and I'm also assuming they are referring to one character that mentioned their sexuality and confusion towards another character but if all they got from that was "The entire book is about sexuality and sex with weird murder dude, gross." then that's just disappointing and I hope no one bases their entire decision on the box set based on that like I almost did 😅 we all have our own tastes though and I understand that. I do recommend this series and whenever times are better for the author I absolutely look forward to the fourth book in this series!

Best of the genre

I tried several of the books in this genre and I haven't even been able to get halfway through any of them until I found this series. it's inventive exciting and has a widespread of characters from every Walk of Life. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

A wonderful story from start to finish.

i don't write reviews because I'm terrible with words, but I really enjoyed this book. All the characters have really interesting personalities and the plot keeps me wanting to be in the world with them. The idea of a game like this has fuels so many of my recent daydreams. I mean, I hate sleeping, so being able to game while I was sleeping would be a dream come true. The romances of the book can be akward and I think they require some empathy to actually understand properly. I mean how would you actually act if the game you were playing was almost as real as life.. it would be psychologically challenging to separate life from the game... and I feel like the characters of this book blur the line between the two. Although, I do think, at times they take death in game a bit too seriously.. especially when it's just a respawn. Still the book is has given me loads of enjoyment and I'm truly glad I read it. I hope the author continues the series soon.
