What’s with calling lilacs “lilocks”??? Strangest book I’ve listened to lately. Skipped multiple chapters just to get through it.

The last book needs an editor

The story is very good. I’ve enjoyed the series. But each book felt longer and longer. I was able to skip chapters and not miss anything relevant to the story. Too descriptive, too long on each scene, just too much at times. It could have been cut in half and still be a great story.

Writing was terrible, story lacking
Reviewed: 01-01-25
This book felt like it was written using AI. So many things throughout that just made no sense. From someone today not knowing how stores and libraries work, modern day researchers not using Google, applying to college with no concept of what to study, having cell phones but leaving paper notes… to the author not making the timeline clear, poor character development, and unrealistic relationships.
This could have been a great story. But it’s not. Don’t bother.

Good story across the series, some unnecessary elements
Reviewed: 12-30-24
Good story line across the books for the most part.
The social commentary was a bit obvious and forced at times.
Some books more than others had a thing about these adults sticking out their tongue at other adults. Perhaps those in their late 20’s do that these days?
The colorful language made sense in most cases, but sometimes felt forced and out of place with the context of the situation.
And, the characters seemed to forget specific things said when it would have been helpful to remember. Most authors don’t usually put something of significance in a story and then never use it.
I liked the story (bought all 8 available), but the writing could use some work to make them better.

The writing is getting worse…
Reviewed: 11-05-24
I thought the previous book wasn’t as good because I wasn’t used to the new narrator. But, it’s mostly the writing. Jack’s dialogue is all wrong. The banter between the two main characters is stiff and unnatural. The puns fall flat. And, the narrator doesn’t deliver. I’ll return the next one. I just can’t listen to any more.

Everything changed with this book
Reviewed: 11-04-24
The change in performers was one that wasn’t great. The characters we got to know were gone and it was hard to get back into the continuing story. But worse was the change in dialogue. Jack used to have the patter of an old time private eye. But all that was lost. Now he is just some guy. Disappointing.
