Story
For four aging men in the terror-stricken town of Milburn, New York, an act inadvertently carried out in their youth has come back to haunt them. Now they are about to learn what happens to those who believe they can bury the past - and get away with murder. Peter Straub's classic best seller is a work of "superb horror" ( Washington Post Book World) that, like any good ghost story, stands the test of time - and conjures our darkest fears and nightmares.

Story
In June 1993, a group of young guerilla filmmakers spent four weeks making Horror Movie, a notorious, disturbing, art-house horror flick. The weird part? Only three of the film’s scenes were ever released to the public, but Horror Movie has nevertheless grown a rabid fanbase. Three decades later, Hollywood is pushing for a big budget reboot.

Story
When struggling riverboat captain Abner Marsh receives an offer of partnership from a wealthy aristocrat, he suspects something’s amiss. But when he meets the hauntingly pale, steely-eyed Joshua York, he is certain. For York doesn’t care that the icy winter of 1857 has wiped out all but one of Marsh’s dilapidated fleet. Nor does he care that he won’t earn back his investment in a decade. York has his own reasons for wanting to traverse the powerful Mississippi. And they are to be none of Marsh’s concern - no matter how bizarre, arbitrary, or capricious his actions may prove.

Story
When Margaret and her husband Hal bought the large Victorian house on Hawthorn Street—for sale at a surprisingly reasonable price—they couldn’t believe they finally had a home of their own. Then they discovered the hauntings. Every September, the walls drip blood. The ghosts of former inhabitants appear, and all of them are terrified of something that lurks in the basement. Most people would flee. Margaret is not most people. Margaret is staying.

It's not a usual occurrence for me to leave a bad review but I must. This work was highly recommended and while I enjoyed some of the originality in the work, I found the characters annoying and worthless for a story.
I'm sure the narrator is great in other works but the performance just made the characters and events that more dull and unworthy of my time.
overall I found the work boring and not even worth being mentioned as a horror book.

Story
One of the world's most famous intellectual ghost stories, The Turn of the Screw is a haunting tale of suspected supernatural possession. A governess at a country house claims that Miles and Flora, two orphaned children in her care, are being controlled by spirits for some evil purpose. No one else can see the ghosts, and the children themselves are silent. Are they being dominated by spectral forces, or are they hiding something? Is the governess simply paranoid, or is something else going on?

Story
Set against the backdrop of the US Civil War, the residents of Gaston Hall find themselves struggling to survive in a place where the worlds of both the living and the dead are intertwined. All is not what it may seem at Gaston Hall - a home for orphaned and abandoned children. One. Two. Three. Four. The children appeared. “Ashes. Ashes. We all tumbled down.” Della’s eyes fluttered. She shifted in her chair; her mouth pinched. Elsie leaned close to the woman’s face and whispered in her ear. “What did you do to your children?”

A haunting story of grief
Reviewed: 05-20-23
This take takes place in in the south after the civil war and tells the story of the woman who houses orphans and children whom need a home.
We also learn a little bit about past from the children who never had a chance to grow up.
overall I enjoyed the story. I did find it more sadness than haunting as you learn about the children who have perished and never left the land but I did find the mystery of the previous people who ran the Hall entertaining.
