On the holiday of Wintertide, the New Empire plans to burn the Witch of Melengar and force the Empress into a marriage of their own design. But they didn’t account for Royce and Hadrian finally locating the Heir of Novron—or the pair’s desire to wreak havoc on the New Empire’s carefully crafted scheme.

Sad it's over? Start with Age of Myth :)

Go back and read/ listen to every Sullivan novel to date in Chronological order (not order of publication). You will find he has created a complete mythology over the span of 10 books. Each volume stands alone with characters as compelling or nearly as compelling as Royce and Hadrian. Doing that after completing Riyaria Revelations turned this from delightful romp to among my 3 favorite fantasy series. Age of Myth took a while to grab me, but none of the other books of Elan did. Enjoy! 😊

Acclaimed author Michael J. Sullivan created instant best sellers with his spellbinding Riyria Revelations series. This first volume introduces Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater, two enterprising thieves who end up running for their lives when they’re framed for the death of the king. Trapped in a conspiracy bigger than they can imagine, their only hope is unraveling an ancient mystery - before it’s too late.

Chronological order-Spoiler Free advice

I just re-listened to all the books of Elan in chronological order, not order of release.
Before I get started, everyone I know who listened to Theft of Swords first loved Royce and Hadrian and stuck with the world of Elan. Not everyone loved Age of Myth (I did). It is whimsical and prehistoric. That is the best argument for not taking my advice.
Michael J Sullivan crafted an entire world with a complete history... releasing them out of chronological order. There are 9 or 10 books that were released after this one but take place chronologically before this one. This was a great series the first time I read it but I kept thinking certain events subplots and characters needed more background or historical context.
After listening to it in chronological order seeing how history is misremembered hundreds and even thousands of years later was amazing. But the characters (Sullivan's biggest strength) are even better.
Great in any order. Phenomenal in chronological order.
START WITH AGE OF MYTH and you will be glad you did. With that said I listened to Age of Swords first and I still loved it, so...

Perfect- start with Age of Myth

This books stands well on its own, but I really think I appreciated it more because I have read everything else he wrote in the same world first. I strongly recommend reading the Legends of the First Empire series first, then this series, then Riyaria.
Seeing it all in chronological order rather than the order Sullivan published would have been super powerful. Still, it is fun seeing where the myths in Riyaria came from... and I think the author gets better with every book he publishes.

Just listened again before book 6 comes out...
I think that both of the latest two books hold up well in terms of story and character quality to the original trilogy.
Other reviewers complained about Lyria's narrator in book 4 then others complained more when she was replaced in book 5. Personally I like book 4 Lysander better and book 5 Lyria better so.
I am not going to complain or pretend I know why those two voice actors were replaced. Other reviewers being spoiled by TGR's immaculate awesomeness inspired me to write this review to say: this book is a great listen, don't let whiney complaining reviews discourage you from listening to it. It's bloody damn prime.

Good narrator, story better than just decent. Book one was good, not amazing. Book two was slow more often than not. Book three really brought it together and was better than the other two by far I thought. If you like LOTR type world building and don't mind some slow parts then its worth it.

Not only a satisfying ending, but probably the best book in the series. I’m a sucker for long drawn out final book in a good series though. This one was long and good enough to make me ok with it only being 4 books and not the several sequels more I’d be excited to read 😆
