First, let me say that this was free, so I can't really complain, and I did find some value in a few of the concepts. That being said, this is my honest feedback. The narrator's voice and inflection is super annoying. Constant references to "life" doing this and "the universe" doing that, reflect an annoying ignorance of God that has become ubiquitous in contemporary literature.

Striking factual observations and surprisingly accurate predictions that have proven true up through present day. This book was written 25 years ago, and has aged VERY well. Offers a perspective everyone should consider.

In most respects, Senator Cotton is speaking from a military perspective, which I understand clearly. The book is one-sided in it's criticisms of left-wing "leadership", and leftist culture, and thus accurately reflects the sad and often tragic reality of the past 6 decades. If you don't see that we're at war, and that our liberty is literally at stake, this book may just open your eyes. Democrats have undermined our national security at EVERY opportunity, and this book is a call to arms (figuratively). Strong solute to Senator Cotton. This man has proven himself as a true patriot beyond any doubt, and his perspective is invaluable to anyone seeking to understand the steady "decline by design" of this great nation.

What is "the big lie" of the Democratic Party? That conservatives - and President Donald Trump in particular - are fascists. Nazis, even. In a typical comment, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow says the Trump era is reminiscent of "what it was like when Hitler first became chancellor." But in fact, this audacious lie is a complete inversion of the truth. Yes, there is a fascist threat in America - but that threat is from the Left and the Democratic Party.

Every angle this author presents is with the single purpose of defaming the Democratic Party: one example after another ...ad nauseum. Personally, I feel that the left-wing politics of recent decades have been the single most dangerous, divisive and destructive force in US history. However, the author uses the history of Democrats to paint an appalling picture of American history that shames us all and contributes, as do so many other contemporary authors, to the war on "all things western".(Read "The War on the West by Douglas Murray.)
To limit any social/political debate to the confines of partisan finger-pointing is to play directly into the hands of those who are actively destroying America and all our traditions. In his efforts to pin all evil, real or imagined, and always exaggerated, on one party, D'Souza simply affords himself a stage upon which he shamefully denigrates our entire (formerly proud) history with each horrific example.
Frankly, I see D'Souza as a straw man. Enough said...

In The War on the West, Douglas Murray shows how many well-meaning people have been fooled by hypocritical and inconsistent anti-West rhetoric. After all, if we must discard the ideas of Kant, Hume, and Mill for their opinions on race, shouldn’t we discard Marx, whose work is peppered with racial slurs and anti-Semitism? Embers of racism remain to be stamped out in America, but what about the raging racist inferno in the Middle East and Asia?

Very comprehensive view of what's going on (and has been going on for decades) in the West. Mr. Murray references many compelling historical comparisons to fascism and national socialism, as well as the constant interference run by modern-day China. He clearly illuminates the focus of this hostility, which exclusively targets "all things western", which is to say, white/European/Judeo-Christian. The book is difficult to listen to, in many ways, because the author bombards us with countless examples of the hypocrisy of the modern left, and their relentless assault on literally all western traditions, including art, music, government, architecture, manufacturing, engineering, philosophy and the scientific method, which is the foundation of literally every single scientific advance in the past several hundred years.
I found it slightly frustrating that it's not until the last chapter that he finally says what most of us have been thinking all along. Mr. Murray speaks with a good deal of sarcasm and cynicism, however, given the subject matter, this is entirely appropriate. If you can't see that we're in the greatest, most dangerous war the west has ever seen, you're hopelessly naive and gullible - turn off CNN/MSNBC/BBC and try applying some logic and reason to our current debacle. For those who have the critical ability to see through the elaborate and incessant media lies, this book will be a refreshing confirmation that you're not as alone as they would have you believe.

i.e. If only you were more WOKE...
Reviewed: 07-27-22
Let me save you the cost of this book and 10 hrs. of your life... This book is like so many contemporary works I've recently read. It seems one cannot escape the constant attempts by the left to indoctrinate us at every turn. The author's message, boiled down, is essentially that your relationship is in trouble b/c you're not WOKE enough. I immediately took exception with the frequently referenced term "toxic individualism". There is nothing "toxic" about individualism. It is what has made Western civilization undeniably outstanding throughout history, and presents a major obstacle, not to my relationship, but to the "movement" to destroy quite literally "all things western" (read "The War on the West" by Douglas Murray). Throughout "US", the author editorializes a number of (real or fictional) former clients, mimicking their voices in mock dialog. Every example is clearly cherry-picked and embellished to fit this so-called "narrative" (I still call it lying) of "white-privilege". Every concept in the book is shaped around the premise that 1. it actually exists, and 2. the whole of US history and culture is based upon it. Every "white" person in the book is described by the author as the epitome of "privilege", whilst the successful black man "clearly" had to "go through SO much" to get to "his level". Apparently, none of the working poor in Appalachia are able to afford Mr. Real's consult fees, as they are conspicuously absent from his memoirs ...as are the working poor or middle class that comprise the vast majority of the "white" population in the US. Just more of the same nonsensical jibber-jabber that has been imposed upon us daily in western media for 5+ decades now, but in concentrated form.
That said, I did find some of the imagery useful (adaptive child vs mature adult, harshness vs love, the concept of modeling parental neuroses, etc.). These are useful, scientifically valid concepts that have been discussed in psychology for centuries. Nonetheless, it is necessary to be reminded of the roles they may play in our daily interactions with loved ones. Frankly, I’m disappointed. I had hopes for this book being a reference that I could keep coming back to as a reminder, as I do with several others I keep on my digital nightstand, but based on the author's grossly biasing political views, I could BARELY finish the last chapter, which seems to be solely dedicated to validating the unfounded and defamatory fiction upon which BLM / CRT propaganda is propped up.
Before you swiftly and conveniently discount me as the mythical "bigot" or "white supremacist", as you've been so mindlessly trained to do, let me tell you briefly about myself. First, I'm a nationalist, an isolationist and a patriot. I'm not the least bit ashamed to claim that. I fly the American flag outside my home, as my way of showing gratitude and respect to those who came before me and made great sacrifices for future generations, to those who built the most free and just society the world has ever seen, and endowed us with the amazing gifts with which we have ALL been blessed. I'm not unique, just a typical working-class American, one who is genuinely grateful for all the opportunities afforded to me and to EVERY American (due to the sacrifices of our ancestors, of whom I am tremendously proud). My grandfather was awarded multiple medals for valor (purple heart, CMH, bronze star, and more) for his service during WWII. I am truly grateful, even though I've never benefited from govt. assistance or affirmative action, and have always been definitively on the "losing side" of both (I pay taxes to support those who will not work, and I compete for work with those who receive preferential treatment based upon their favorable "group identity", i.e. non-white, non-straight, non-male). I left home at 15 and moved across the country with $700 in my pocket, worked in construction to eventually pay my way through 2 universities to obtain a master's level education in business/finance, then spent the next 22 years paying off my student loans and unwinding all the liberal indoctrination to which I was incessantly subjected. I never received any financial assistance from either of my family or from the govt., except in the form of student loans - to the tune of $116K (which I only recently paid off …ironically). Even then, with my newly framed university degrees and glowing “white” skin (I’m actually quite tan), and in spite of my numerous attempts at gaining access to the mythical "secret boy's club" about which the liberals are always ranting, my "white privilege" card was mysteriously, and without exception, DENIED. The bottom line is; until we can have an earnest intellectual public discussion about poverty in the US, of which "whites" comprise 80% - based on census data, we will continue to be a divided and ignorant electorate of this fraudulent pseudo-democracy, a disgraceful embarrassment to our forefathers, and the hated laughing stock of every nation on this planet. In short, this author is perpetuating one of the most insidious, deceitful, libelous hoaxes in the history of western civilization.
I don't know how much the author charges his exclusively rich and/or famous clientele for his services, but I imagine if I were getting $2000... $5000... $10,000 a session for merely sitting and talking with people, I might feel "privileged" as well. So I'll take this opportunity to invite Mr. Real (or any other "woke" individual) to come work just 1 DAY with me in my construction business where I still do the heavy lifting and swing a hammer...and if he can make it through even one day of what I've done for 10,000+ DAYS (I'm 57, so ...42 years working x 250+ days/yr.), he can THEN talk to me about my "white privilege" ...if he still has the energy to get up off the floor.
I am not alone. MOST working Americans (of all races) feel this way. And yet, contrary to the author's narrow definition of "un-woke" individuals, I'm not entitled or abusive. I simply and humbly seek advice on how to refine my relationship into a more loving and joyous one. So …genuine thanks for the 90 minutes of this book that offered some insight into that. As for the rest (to Terrance Real), you can put it in your pipe and smoke it. I’m NOT fooled, no matter how many times you (and the rest of the left-wing media) keep repeating the same destructive and divisive lies. To you, the reader, how much longer must we sit and watch every single institution in America decline before people connect the dots? Ask yourself... what are they building to replace all they have destroyed?

Objective truth
Reviewed: 01-04-22
This book is extremely well narrated. As for the content, Mr. Horowitz is simply stating what anyone with any trace of intellectual integrity (ie not drunk on the liberal kool-aid) already understands. We've ALL been taught, since we were children, to obey police commands and that the time to argue your case is in court, NOT by resisting arrest... therefore, it shouldn't be surprising that if you're a convicted violent felon on drugs, that attacking a police officer with or without a weapon will likely get you shot, regardless of your race. We ALL know this, yet some still insist they didn't get the memo. Sadly, these are the only voices not "cancelled" in the broadcast and social media. Horowitz is one of VERY few public voices speaking truth on the matter in this so-called "free" country, and while it's somewhat refreshing, it is equally depressing to hear. It's actually quite disturbing to hear a compilation of so many of the massive media lies with which we've all been inundated in recent years. Not a happy tale. Not a feel good story, but rather a story of the even further erosion of integrity in our government and media (if that's even possible). This is a very important book and serves to arm those with the courage to stand in the face of this tidal wave of lies with pertinent, relevant FACTS with which to defend truth when it comes under attack in your daily life. As usual, the truth always comes out years after the fact when the subject matter is less timely, less relevant, and after the damage has already been done, and new media lies are already built upon the old ones. The left and the media have waged war on truth, which is in effect a war on democracy, people, and it's a battle for your mind. Prepare accordingly.

AMZN is manipulating these reviews
Reviewed: 05-31-21
When reading the reviews for this title, I clicked on "helpful" for a few of the more thoughtful comments. I began to notice that when I voted for a positive review, the number of votes did not increase. To test this observation, I voted for a couple of neutral (3 star) reviews (which were really just thinly veiled criticisms by those fully indoctrinated with liberal ideology), I saw that my vote was counted (ie. the number of "those who found this helpful" would increase by my one vote). You can try this for yourself.
I'll start by addressing the negative reviews/reviewers, many of whom have criticized the author for being "one-sided". If you are so hypnotized by the onslaught of leftist propaganda, with which we in the West have been inundated for the past 50 years, to see that "the media" (by far the most powerful weapon in human history) has presented everything we've seen, heard, and most importantly THOUGHT ABOUT from an equally one-sided (albeit opposite) perspective, then you are not objective or reasonable. I suggest a course of study in basic philosophy to learn some critical thinking skills before proceeding to comment from a position of presumed objectivity. If you think conservatives are hypocrites and liars and liberals are benevolent and truthful, you are blind. THEY ALL LIE, but for very different reasons. Stop being so self-righteous. Get out of the city and turn off your TV and social media. TALK TO REAL PEOPLE OUTSIDE YOUR OWN CIRCLE ONCE IN AWHILE. SEE HOW THEY LIVE BEFORE PONTIFICATING HERE WITH YOUR REGURGITATED MSNBC JIBBERISH.
On to my review...
I think Mr. Saad may have been able to reach a bigger audience, maybe even some on the left, had he softened his presentation. I will say, however, this is nearly impossible to do once one realizes that our country and the entire western world has been hijacked by radical special interest groups imposing their esoteric ideals onto the general public. When identity politics allows politicians to split the vote right down the middle in this bi-polar pseudo-democracy - the 1% (not THAT 1%) get to call all the shots and lead the rest of us around by the ear. While I'm not put off in the least by the author's blunt presentation of facts, the vast majority of which I have witnessed first hand, I feel the book could have reached more readers with a more elegant touch. Again, I can handle the truth, so it did not "hurt my feelings". Sadly, in this divided nation, there exists a not-so-fine line between opposing views, and too often important books like this one end up being read exclusively by those who are predisposed to agree with the author's POV. Nobody's changing anybody else's mind about political issues anymore. Healthy political discourse has degenerated into polarizing "us vs. them" tribalism. In response, the author seems to wield only one tool from his toolbox and it's a hammer. That said, the state of affairs in the West is so dire, it may be that a hammer is the only tool that is appropriate at this point. Good, honest, hard-working, tax-paying citizens (people that don't think they're "special") have been incessantly brow-beaten with highly-selective, non-contextual and often revisionist history in the liberal media for as long as I can remember. I'm from the generation (maybe one of the last - Gen X) of learning from my elders. The disrespect I see and hear daily in the media towards the great MEN and WOMEN who sacrificed so much to build this great nation (USA) and ensure that we could all speak freely physically sickens me. The irony of this "cancel culture" is worthy of 10,000 books like this.
In clear opposition to the decades long, incessant inundation of left-wing propaganda by the media, Gad Saad speaks truth and common sense in a courageous, clear, and unapologetic manner. Like the author, I too possess University degrees (to the Master's level), from UC Santa Barbara and Colorado State. I can attest that the comments he makes with regard to the systematic squelching of open discourse on matters of race, feminism and sexual preference/identity are indeed accurate. Opposing ideas are routinely dismissed ...with extreme prejudice.
With regard to the prevailing trend of suggesting to children that they may be gay or lesbian or "sexually mis-assigned" prior to them even reaching puberty is beyond reprehensible. The idea of letting very young children decide these things without any discussion or guidance by the parent(s) is negligent at best (Charlize Theron and her 3 y.o. as example). We now live in a world where nearly every Hollywood movie depicts the ever so wise children enlightening their parents to the err of their ways. It's ludicrous! No nation or culture in history has ever embraced such absurdity, much less thrived or progressed! Who's driving the bus here and why do we still support these traitors? I believe it is likely that this is yet another reactionary response to attempt to compensate for the bigotry of the past towards gays and lesbians. I don't see why people would have ever had any issue with what other consenting adults do in private, but the fact that this took place in a ubiquitous fashion most definitely laid the groundwork for future generations to feel they need to change their anatomy to be who they are. It is terribly sad, but the reaction we're seeing today can only lead to more madness. As usual, social policies are reactive, rather than proactive, and in reaction, the wrong solutions are applied to almost every single situation, doing even more damage, and creating unprecedented social tension.
With regard to "racism" and the lunacy that has ensued in response to the media's relentless one-sided presentation of selective facts and non-stop race-baiting, I have 3 words: READ THOMAS SOWELL.
Lastly, the book does not pretend to be a "manual of all things". It addresses a specific and extremely important issue and it does so with great veracity. In light of the TREMENDOUS pressure to conform to the new tyranny, and the sanctions levied against those who refuse to comply, I commend Mr. Saad for his courage in speaking unapologetically in a manner that used to be considered "common sense" ...which to quote Voltaire, is not so common. One last thing, and this is important... if you're one who doesn't "get" sarcasm, you'll miss out on a great deal in this book, and in life. Lighten up... they're only WORDS.

Thomas Sowell should be required reading in high schools. If Democrats in this country actually wanted to end racism, rather than use it to their political advantage, it would be. Acknowledge the failed govt. programs spawned by the "civil rights movement" (affirmative action, for example), and study history, as opposed to forming your political views based on the cherry-picked history-bits being spoon fed to us (typically out-of-context and often divorced from verified historical fact) by the liberal media. Mr. Sowell has earned ultimate credibility and has "walked the walk" his whole life. How has he not been awarded a Nobel Peace prize? No matter your background, there are some tough pills to swallow here, but if you're seeking truth, it shouldn't bother you. The US is on the brink of civil-war, and the historically contextual facts in this book would serve well as a framework for truly progressive dialogue toward healing a fractured America and enabling black Americans to believe, achieve. and prosper. Excellent book!
