Story
Powerful and accessible, A History of America in Ten Strikes challenges all of our contemporary assumptions around labor, unions, and American workers. In this brilliant book, labor historian Erik Loomis recounts ten critical workers’ strikes in American labor history that everyone needs to know about (and then provides an annotated list of the 150 most important moments in American labor history in the appendix).

High school sucks for a lot of people. High school extra sucks when you believe, deep in your soul, that every kid in the school is out to get you. I wasn't popular before I got locked up in Straight Inc., the notorious "tough love" program for troubled teens. So it's not like I was walking around thinking everyone liked me. But when you're psychologically beaten for 16 months, you start to absorb the lessons. The lessons in Straight were: You are evil. Your peers are evil. Everything is evil except Straight, Inc. Before long, you're a true believer.

I found Cindy on a podcast I frequent, and on a whim, I got this book. She is an incredibly talented writer. I was sucked into her world from the start. Great narration performance as well. I highly recommend this read.
Cindy, besides her specific rehabilitation situation, was all of us growing up. Just longing and looking for love. To be accepted. I was there with her on her journey. Thank you for putting it all down in words, Cindy. I'm an over 50-year-old male and graduated a year before she did, but my story and most like yours isn't far from hers. Read her story and enjoy her painted picture.
