If there’s anything they can count on, it’s each other. Clementine and Erika are each other’s oldest friends. A single look between them can convey an entire conversation. But theirs is a complicated relationship, so when Erika mentions a last minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Tiffany and Vid, Clementine and Sam don’t hesitate.

Good Story, Okay Writing

Overall I enjoyed this audiobook! The story line is very interesting and intriguing. There were points at which I was disappointed by the writing though ("Christine made a mental note" became like nails on a chalk board for me towards the end after hearing it so many times!). It was also somewhat predictable about half way through. Wth respect to the performance, I think the narrator did a pretty good job however I personally am not a fan of how they have women do mens voices and vice versa.

Great Story Despite Narration
Reviewed: 05-31-16
I struggled to actually stick with this one in the beginning because the audible narration really bothered me. Considering this is a romance novel, I found it annoying that he main male character was played by a woman. It was awkward. I am glad I stuck with it however because the story was pretty great!

When Robin Ellacott opens an unexpected delivery, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but just as alarmed. He suspects that four people from his past could be responsible - and any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality. With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike has essentially ruled out, he and Robin take matters into their own hands and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men.

This is my favorite of the Strike series so far!! Kept me guessing the whole way and had me on the edge of my seat a few times. I also liked that this one was a bit darker thank the first two. Amazing plot, amazing writing, and the narrator for this audio was great too!

So begins the first letter that falls into Wang's lap as he flips down the visor in his taxi. The letters that follow are filled with the stories of Wang's previous lives - from escaping a marriage to a spirit bride to being a slave on the run from Genghis Khan to living as a fisherman during the Opium Wars and being a teenager on the Red Guard during the cultural revolution.

This was a great listen! The premise of the story had me intrigued and once I began listening it lived up to this initial intrigue. The stories with in the story are fascinating and full of history. Throughout the story I was on the edge of my seat dying to know and playing the guessing game of, who is writing these letters? The readers also performed very well; probably one of the most enjoyable audio books I've listened to! I definitely would recommend this book/audiobook!

Story
The summer that Nixon resigns, six teenagers at a summer camp for the arts become inseparable. Decades later the bond remains powerful, but so much else has changed. In The Interestings, Wolitzer follows these characters from the height of youth through middle age, as their talents, fortunes, and degrees of satisfaction diverge. The kind of creativity that is rewarded at age 15 is not always enough to propel someone through life at age 30; not everyone can sustain, in adulthood, what seemed so special in adolescence.

The evolution of friendships
Reviewed: 08-27-15
I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this when I started and I really wasn't sure what it was going to be about. It turned out to be an in-depth and relatable examination of how childhood friendships grow and change throughout life. Though I have almost nothing in common with characters as they are described in the beginning (children at a camp for the arts in the 1970's) their issues and struggles became relatable throughout the telling of the story. I like the writer's style as well as the performance of the audiobook.

I don't usually do zombies but, I became intrigued by the vague synopsis and a review by someone else who said they don't do zombie stories but they enjoyed this one. I was pleasantly surprised. I won't lie and say this is now a favorite read of mine, but it was definitely an interesting take on a zombie apocalypse story and I found myself on the edge of my seat a few times dying to know what happens next. It also came to a pretty good and different conclusion too. I would and have recommended this book to friends!

Unlikeable Characters
Reviewed: 08-27-15
I found myself hating just about every character in this story. I was just so annoyed with all of them and it seemed like they didn't have any redeeming qualities (except maybe the kids because you could blame their issues on their parents but then you just hate those characters more. The ending didn't seem very good either. The author seemed to end the book without making a point. I wasn't a fan of the reader either, but in reality that wouldn't have mattered if it were a great story.
