Story
Living off the land and adapting to a changing environment takes a special individual with the unique skills, training, and determination necessary to survive. Gus Berry is not that individual. The former house painter barely made it out of Annapolis as its population underwent a violent transformation, leaving everyone he knew or loved dead—or undead. Now, Gus needs food and booze, weapons and armor, clothing that fits, and above all, toilet paper, preferably two-ply.

We get it. The main character drinks ALL THE TIME
Reviewed: 02-04-25
There really wasn’t much to this story. Basically the main character, who wasn’t much of a drinker, goes all out on the booze. Nothing else really to the story.

Read, don't listen
Reviewed: 12-16-24
I think the story was overall good; however, as much as I love Ray Porter, he was not the best choice for narrator for this story. The setting in this book is (come to find out) in the London area, but you wouldn't know that because Ray Porter narrates the main character in an American accent, and then jumps to a British accent. WHY?! I finished the book, but the accents not matching up, really took away from the story.

Story
For eons, conquering dungeons has been the most efficient way to become a strong adventurer. Although not everything is as straightforward as it seems. Several questions have always plagued the minds of those who enter these mythical places of power: why are there so many monsters? Where do the amazing weaponry and heavy gold coins come from? Why does the very air fill with life-giving energies? Cal has all of the answers to these age-old questions, for a very simple reason. He is a Dungeon Heart.

Wow... I just don't understand how this got so many good reviews. It's sooooo bad. Boring story-line that really leans more toward tweens getting into dungeon game culture. It sounded like a game manual with amateurish writing and humor.

The entire story was so ridiculous. First she hates her captor, and then 2 weeks later (it seemed due to the writing) she was totally in love. Also, her total disregard for orders is mind blowing. Not once does she think, “Maybe what they are telling me is for my own safety, since I live in a completely different, completely nonhuman world now.” Nope! It blows my mind that this book has gotten so many good reviews. I just don’t get it. This book really isn’t very good at all.

I don’t really know where to start. This saga had a promising concept (books 1-3), but then this last book just hurried up and took many different turns and had nonsensical filler information that took away from the initial storyline.

Story
The wall just didn’t look right. Alex has been trying to cope. Life after his deployment had been rough. His ex-wife thought he needed to stop disappointing their daughter. She was right. He would try harder. With six hours before his little girl’s fourth birthday party, he saw the anomaly. One wall was too short. Plenty of time to tear out a panel and look behind it. He found a brick wall. His house wasn’t made of brick. Behind that was another just like the first. He still had time. When the second wall came down, Alex stood and stared at the shining doorway.

Hard to follow
Reviewed: 02-05-24
It is hard to understand when ALL of the names sound like Ah-Tah-Ga-Ah. Also, the fact that this guy goes through an unknown door, while knowing a minimum amount of crucial information, but then still goes through knowing that he should be leaving to go see his daughter an hour later; doesn't make a good start for this character's development. And then the tribe that he lives with considers arrows as advanced technology? What about natural healing remedies or poisons? That isn't a discovery to them. It's all just too much.

Commander Dunstan Park of the Rhodian navy has been handpicked to command an experimental cruiser that could dictate the course of the escalating conflict. The characters were just so annoying. It was really hard to move past their rambling and bickering; and why wouldn't you accept a ride in the middle of the cold night from a friend when you still have to walk a few more miles?! Annoying, just so annoying.
