About this listen

Surviving the zombie apocalypse requires supplies—like booze, weapons, and toilet paper—in the second prequel to the Mountain Man series.

Living off the land and adapting to a changing environment takes a special individual with the unique skills, training, and determination necessary to survive. Gus Berry is not that individual. The former house painter barely made it out of Annapolis as its population underwent a violent transformation, leaving everyone he knew or loved dead—or undead.

Now, Gus needs food and booze, weapons and armor, clothing that fits, and above all, toilet paper, preferably two-ply. But getting his hands on any of these essentials requires the one thing he can’t face doing, and that’s leaving his modern mountain fortress and returning to Annapolis and the horrors that roam its streets in search of the living.

With winter looming, Gus must procure these much-needed supplies quickly, before the snow piles too high and blocks the roads. And that’s when he’ll face the greatest challenge of all: maintaining his sanity . . .

This, like all the pre-StraightEdge-Gus novels, will make you crave a massive glass of Captain Morgan and 20+ bags of potato chips. Listeners beware. Not for the weak willed!

Alcoholics and junk food addicts BEWARE! 😆

Loved it. Gus isn’t as grizzled and confident in this one, as it’s still early on. He kills a lot less zombies than usual throughout the book as a result. I hope to see more books in this universe. I’d love perspectives from other people, new people and stuff around the time of the early
Days. I love seeing the collapse of society and learning to live with it more than picking up in the middle of the apocalypse more I think.

Always happy for my Gus

The title got me Interested but R.C. Bray kept me listening. And I’m so glad that they put the bloopers at the end. The last book I listened to that Bray read they had them and I was rolling on the floor laughing. Well done Keith! Keep them coming!

I don’t do zombie books!

the second sequel was exactly what I was hoping for. I feel gus in his early days vs how he ended up is a good contrast on what a guy can become. also that full circle ending. saw it coming a mile away, but I suppose that's the best part

gus

For those that leave critical negative reviews your reading/listening to wrong type of books! This book just like all in the Mountain Man series is awesomely entertaining. Please keep this series going, I can’t live like Gus, but sure as hell can pretend

I didnt think this particular installment was as good ast the rest but that's not to say it was bad. I liked it.
I enjoy Blackmore's writing a fair bit. He does the average Joe, (Gus in this case) very well. This particualr book didnt have any of the high intensity suspense of the other books but it was good to be back the company of Gus. Would definitely read more of this series if written but I also feel like it has been ended well if no more books were to come. As always very well read by Bray. Mountain man the first book was actually my introduction to R.C. Bray. Both him and Keith C. Blackmore are among my very favorites in their professions.

Liked it.
