I’ve lost count of the number of times I have read this book already. Great storytelling, the most wonderful characters and the kind of love story that is so engaging and captivating. Equally as important is the amazingly talented narrator, K.C. Kelly. He makes every book very special, bringing stories and characters to life. And unforgettable.

Dumping gallons of lube on the new kid is just another day at the office for Alexei. He knows exactly who he is: a goalie on the ice, a prankster in the locker room, and a man who knows better than to share his private life with anyone. He’s let people in before and it’s taught him that it’s better to be alone. Mike is broke, bruised, and covered from head to toe in cheap lube. All he wants is to keep to himself and play for the Ice Cats. What he needs, though, is another matter entirely.

He's known to be a more engaging than written in this one. It's almost all repetitive sex scenes and he's not all that likeable here. I skimmed most of this book in the series along with the threesome storyline aspect. None of it jelled. YMMV. I usually enjoy her books and she's a good writer but this one didn't match up. Regardless, the narrator, Michael Ferraiuolo, is divine and perfect as always.

Story
Deputy US Marshal Eli Kohn is doing fine. As the Director of Public Affairs for the Northern District, he represents the USMS in Chicago and that suits him. Yes, it’s wearing to always be on, to smile and wave even in the face of adversity, but he’s good at his job, and no one ever sees him sweat. His personal life, though, has been stagnant, and that doesn’t seem likely to change. But that’s fine too. Eli would much rather spend his free time with his best friend Cel. And lately, when they’re not together, he’s been missing him more and more….

Wasn't what I was expecting from the series but happy now that I stayed w it.
Reviewed: 11-21-22
I can recommend this as a stand-alone because it is basically removed from the tone, intensity, and references/involvement of the other books & MC's. But for fans of the series I say, stay with it, eventually it works very well. In the end there is a treat of a phone call from a character who reminds you how much the series has meant to its readers. Some icing on the cake. A last thought, it IS Mary Calmes, so you can never go wrong.

Life doesn’t always pan out as you expect. When it explodes in my face, literally, an old friend offers me a place to heal and a job renovating the kitchen of Burlington’s coolest wine bar. V&V is a chill fest. Living above it should be a blast. But I’m not built to be a social butterfly. Not anymore. I’m a damaged man. And I’m not its target clientele. At least, I think I’m not until I come face-to-face with the most beautiful human I’ve ever seen.

This is one of my favorite authors. I enjoyed this sweet love story and watching their story develop. Much love for the excellent narrators as well. As I do with most reviews of Garrett Leigh books I mention that my favorite & many-times-read of her books is "Misfits", should anyone be looking for more from this author.

Empaths have so much to offer as healers, creatives, friends, lovers, and innovators at work. Yet highly sensitive and empathic people often give too much at the expense of their own well-being - and end up absorbing the stress of others. "To stay healthy and happy," writes Dr. Judith Orloff, "you must be ready with daily self-care practices that work." With Thriving as an Empath, she provides an invaluable resource to help you protect yourself from the stresses of an overwhelming world and embrace the "gift of being different".

Also: It's great having audible books which have been daily reads. Books with meditations, reflections, inspiration, thoughts. There are a number I have enjoyed over the years, lugging them around while traveling & vacations etc. I now have a number of them which like this one, are richly enjoyed with the benefit of audio.
