Story
Killing Comfort is a tactical approach to living your best (uncomfortable) life. It is not a fairy tale or a story for your entertainment. The intentional pursuit of discomfort is not the same thing as simply putting yourself in uncomfortable situations. It's putting yourself in the right uncomfortable situations for exponential growth. It all starts with the simple idea of killing comfort. At its best, comfort has eased you into mediocrity. At its worst, comfort is killing you. It's time we take the fight to comfort.

This is a good story. I have listened to his pod cast over the years off and on. He will get you motivated but there are better authors at it like David Goggins books.

Story
Alexandra Lange now turns her sharp eye to another subject we only think we know. She chronicles post-war architects’ and merchants’ invention of the mall, revealing how the design of these marketplaces played an integral role in their cultural ascent. In Lange’s perceptive account, the mall becomes newly strange and rich with contradiction: Malls are environments of both freedom and exclusion—of consumerism, but also of community. Meet Me by the Fountain is a highly entertaining and evocative promenade through the mall’s story of rise, fall and ongoing reinvention.

Wrong person to write this book
Reviewed: 01-06-24
The author has so many prejudices that this is more of an editorial book than history book. The author loves densely packed cities with all local stores. Shopping centers became what they are due to large companies. She would rather have a good looking vacant mall than a full generic mall. I struggled with her perspective from chapter 1. I hope someone more qualified writes a good book on this topic as shopping centers have defined a portion of the US for the last 60 years.

Story
Elliot Ackerman left the American military ten years ago, but his time in Afghanistan and Iraq with the Marines and later as a CIA paramilitary officer marked him indelibly. When the Taliban began to close in on Kabul in August 2021 and the Afghan regime began its death spiral, he found himself pulled back into the conflict. Afghan nationals who had worked closely with the American military and intelligence communities for years now faced brutal reprisal and sought frantically to flee the country with their families.

I liked the story and what happened in Afghanistan and US foreign policy. The book does have a small problem jumping in time and jumping from Afghanistan to other parts of the world a little too much.

On rare occasion, a fascinating artist will endeavor to peel back the curtain and truly reveal themselves: Their craft, their thoughts, their pain, their humanity. But it is even more rare that the artist actually possesses the range of gifts to pull it off. St. Vincent is such an artist. And St. Vincent: Words plus Music is such an experience.

Soaring ambition. Unwavering integrity. Billie Joe Armstrong isn’t the first punk to negotiate mainstream success, but he might be its most undisguised example. Matching his emotional storytelling with new, exclusive, recordings of Green Day’s biggest hits, Armstrong chronicles the seminal moments in his life: the trauma and triumphs that have come to define him.

Pete Townshend is one of the great figures in rock ‘n’ roll history. For almost 60 years, The Who have balanced the physical and the spiritual with introspective lyrics and inspirational music. But there is a part of Townshend’s story—and The Who’s—that has not been examined. These are his Words + Music. In the Audible Original Pete Townshend: Somebody Saved Me, the songwriter takes us through the period between the 1978 death of Who drummer Keith Moon and the 2002 loss of bassist John Entwistle.
