Story
Renée Ballard and the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit get a hot shot DNA connection between a recently arrested man and a serial rapist and murderer who went quiet twenty years ago. The arrested man is only twenty-four, so the genetic link must be familial: His father was the Pillowcase Rapist, responsible for a five-year reign of terror in the city of angels. But when Ballard and her team move in on their suspect, they encounter a baffling web of secrets and legal hurdles. Meanwhile, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen.

Too many plot lines for my taste.

Liked the voices of the actors from the series. The Ballard mom story needed filling; too sketchy with the other two plots.

I just had some questions about evidence collection. I didn’t think a random officer showing up on the crime site would be allowed to take gunshot residue test, but on top of that, since she was off duty, I didn’t know where she would’ve gotten the test paraphernalia

Most people want to avoid thinking about death, but Caitlin Doughty - a 20-something with a degree in medieval history and a flair for the macabre - took a job at a crematory, turning morbid curiosity into her life’s work. With an original voice that combines fearless curiosity and mordant wit, Caitlin tells an unusual coming-of-age story full of bizarre encounters, gallows humor, and vivid characters (both living and very dead).

What was most interesting about this recording/book is how patient Woodward had to be, and how hard it was to get Trump to answer any question. It was hard to listen to, but valuable to understanding him.

Joe Kenda investigated 387 murder cases during his 23 years with the Colorado Springs Police Department and solved almost all of them. And he is ready to detail the cases that are too gruesome to air on television, cases that still haunt him, and the few cases where the killer got away. These cases are horrifyingly real, and the detail is so mesmerizing you won't be able to turn it off.

Story
Meet Threadbare. He is 12 inches tall, full of fluff, and really, really bad at being a hero. Magically animated and discarded by his maker as a failed experiment, he is saved by a little girl. But she's got problems of her own, and he might not be able to help her. Fortunately for the little golem, he's quick to find allies, learn skills, gain levels, and survive horrible predicaments. Which is good, because his creator has a whole lot of enemies …

Fun stuff, and fun nonsense
Reviewed: 05-22-23
I have to say the narrator is tremendous!! This is the first book in the series.\ I liked the story, but tired of all the “status” reports each character got after something happened. I fell in love with Threadbare, and liked Mrs. Fluffbear well enough. The little girl vampire was fun. But honestly, having characters die in battle is one thing, but then they don’t really, because an animated golem has the ability to store their souls until he/it is able to stuff them into a different golem which he/it brings to life. And anyone who is hurt can be “clean and press” or ‘Mend” and get back to their original state. Nice, but it takes the risk out of every danger.

Story
Threadbare has not had a very good time of it recently. His little girl has been taken from him, and he must travel the kingdom, finding allies old and new, living and dead, to help him rescue Celia. Fortunately, he's got a voice now and access to all those fun skills he couldn't before use. He may only be a very small teddy bear, but he's got the persistence to plow through dungeons of rascally raccoon monsters, the wiles to turn a town full of undead on its ear, and the sanity to survive an encounter with a mediocre old one.
