Story
Vince Carver left the CIA with a dead friend and a close call. So much for so-called intelligence work. No longer knowing what he was fighting for, Carver switched to the private sector and swore he'd never go back. Armed with the elite skills of a special operator, he now leads a team of security specialists far from the battlefield. But everything changes when his convoy is ambushed on American soil. The three-letter agencies all want a piece of him, and the CIA is front and center.

Good research, realistic and riveting. I do not write a lot of reviews on this forum, but I wanted to thank Matt Sloane for a job well done. I am looking forward to the next books in the series.

Seriously?
Reviewed: 03-25-24
Having a British narrator of a story that plays in the USA, is clearly focused on Los Angeles and the LAPD, took a great story into close to unbearable. Her British slang and pronunciations made me cringe, and adding a Cockney accent to the bad guys only made it worse, Elaine Wise is a diligent reader, but this was the wrong assignment for her, and really kind of disrespectful.

YOu really had to go full politicalhatred.
Reviewed: 01-22-24
I really enjoyed the series until we got to this book. Some people "read" audio books for the escape and entertainment value. The disclaimer at the end that the author is a political activist probably should have been the introduction. It ruined the whole series to me, and I will never buy another work from this author, It is not an issue for me of anti Trump and anti American patriotism, or anti progressives and anti Soros, it is simply not what I want or need in my escapism. Like Barbra Streisand was once lectured at one of her concerts of her endless lecturing and not singing by one of the audience members - "Shut up and sing!", Alexandra Sokoloff - Keep your personal agenda to yourself, or warn people that you are a political operative before they invest time and money into you.
Finally, branding (no pun intended) half the country that believes in American exceptionalism, what the flag stands for being patriots and believing in the Constitution, as being rapists and women haters is just plain insulting.

Story
You can pick your friends, they say, but you can't pick your family. And lately, Mike Daley's family has been keeping him very busy. An ex-priest, ex-public defender, and ex-corporate lawyer, Daley and his former wife, Rosie Fernandez, now run their own San Francisco criminal defense firm. Most of their cases are fairly small-time, which is why it would be surprising that the person accused of murdering movie director Richard (Big Dick) MacArthur is calling them - except that the accused is Rosie's own niece, Angelina.

Go back to the recording studio
Reviewed: 07-18-23
I do not think I will be able to listen to the whole recording. The constant banging, knocking and other background noises from the recording studio are mind numbing. Every movement that Bill Godfrey makes is audible. I assume that the audio engineer really had a bad day, or set the levels way wrong, or Bill Godfrey is the noisiest person in the world. :)
I really enjoyed the first two titles of this series, and hope the rest are not like this. This is the first title with Bill Godfrey, and hope this is not a sign of things to come.
