About this listen

You can pick your friends, they say, but you can't pick your family. And lately, Mike Daley's family has been keeping him very busy. An ex-priest, ex-public defender, and ex-corporate lawyer, Daley and his former wife, Rosie Fernandez, now run their own San Francisco criminal defense firm. Most of their cases are fairly small-time, which is why it would be surprising that the person accused of murdering movie director Richard (Big Dick) MacArthur is calling them - except that the accused is Rosie's own niece, Angelina. That case is bad enough, but the family problems don't end there: Rosie's brother, Tony, may be on the wrong end of a strong-arm graft proposal; the son of one of the firm's lawyers has just been busted on a drug charge; Mike is having a clandestine affair with a woman judge... and Rosie herself has a dark secret that may make all of it seem irrelevant.

An intricate plot, immensely likeable characters, powerful suspense, and more than a touch of humor-these have already become Siegel's hallmarks. Criminal Intent will keep you turning pages until its final, surprising end.

I love the series and this book promised to be another good story, but I could not listen to this narrator a minute longer. I will need to finish the story by reading a hard copy. On to book 4, with a different narrator. I’m hoping they learned from this experience.

Narrator so awful, I had to return it.

The story flowed well and though I was skeptical of the multiple storylines at first, it followed through easily. I loved Michael and Rosita!

Loved the story

The story was decent as was the performance, but there were many distracting sounds in the background throughout the recording. Frequently sounded like doors closing or objects dropping-- at times enough so that it pulled me out of the story and reminded me I was sitting in traffic.

Poor quality recording of a decent story

The narration was awful! It really was hard hard to listen when the reading mispronounced words and the affect was flat. The story was ok, but not engaging!

Could have been better

Another good book but the narration was low quality with background noises etc. Enjoying the series

Narration is low quality but good story

You can hear every time the reader turns the mic on and off and when he moves. Very annoying and a great distraction

Too much motion with the mic

I enjoyed this book. It was interesting how you would think it was this way or that and it was not at all. I am going to get next one in series.

Attention getter

I’m sure there was good reason, but switching narrators in the middle of the series is frustrating. The narrator for this book would go from a barely audible whisper to an overpowering shout in a split second. I couldn’t control the volume of this book. It became terribly frustrating keeping the volume where I couldn’t control hear it, but not disturb my neighbors while playing on my surround sound. Playing in my headphones was ear splitting.

Sound quality frustrating at best

Criminal Intent is Book 3 in the seven book Mike Daley/Rosie Fernandez legal thriller series. The first 5 books are available in audiobook format and all seven are available in Kindle ebook format. Audible does not list this series as a series. The novels were released between 2000 and 2010 inclusive. The novels in order written are Special Circumstances, Incriminating Evidence, Criminal Intent, Final Verdict, The Confession, Judgement Day, and Perfect Alibi. Daley and Fernandez are law partners who were once married but now divorced. Daley is also an ex-priest. The pair have a 10 year old daughter.

Criminal Intent is an excellent legal thriller, but in my view it is the weakest novel in the superb seven book series. The intrigue is over the top.

I recommend the entire Daley/Fernandez series.

Lots of intrigue and suspense!
