Story
My name was Dr. Erica Hill. I was a victim, then a witness, and then I ceased to exist altogether. I may still be breathing, but stripped of my identity, I have long since stopped living. I am invisible, and my life depends on my ability to stay in the shadows. But he sees me. Slate Andrews is the embodiment of everything I have been taught to avoid. He’s rich and famous, and one image of him with a woman would earn millions for any paparazzi lucky enough to snap it.

His name is Royal, but he's no prince charming. He's not even a prince - though you could say I loved him once upon a time. He was my older brother's best friend. Growing up, he sat at our dinner table every Sunday, teased me mercilessly, and pretended I annoyed him. When I was old enough, he took me on my first date. Royal taught me how to drive. Escorted me to my junior prom. Gave me my first kiss...among other things. He was my first taste of toe-curling, all-consuming, can't-sleep love.

This was such a quick read and great to round out my reading month.
This does deal with some substance abuse, abuse of a minor, mental health, and more. Please check triggers.
The story was faced paced and kept moving which I loved. I would have liked to go a little deeper with our main characters. I felt more drawn to their emotional connection when they were teens than when they reunite.
Overall, this was great for what I needed right now.

I really enjoyed this one as I love a good emotional read. I did like one side of the story more than the other though. I also was not a huge fan of how they all come together (it was kinda creepy if you think about it; the mom never questions the attachment to her children from all sense a stranger). Otherwise, this was a good read that did leave tears flowing!

Story
When I met Thayer Holmes, I had no idea how much he would single-handedly change my life. Our journey hasn't been an easy one, but it has been ours. We've fought through the impossible and come out stronger because of it. But happily-ever-after isn't a destination. It's a never-ending road trip with bumps along the way. Some bumps are bigger than others, but none of it matters as long as we have each other, right?

Well, this went in so many different directions than I thought it would when I started it. It also leaves off on a cliff hanger (I probably would not have finished this if I knew this was how it ended-so many questions but I do not feel I will continue on with the series to find out).
I think I would have liked this even more if the time was spread out a little more. So much intensity around the relationship and it all takes place in only a few days. I was annoyed towards the end with how fast it all moved.
Overall, this was ok.

I am not typically one to love stories that start off when the characters are teenagers. However; since I love RY I pushed through this one.
I thought this was just ok. As others mentioned, I feel the story was all over the place at times. There were almost too many side stories taking place. The places that could have been super emotional just moved way too fast and never went deep enough to be that emotional. I just wanted more.
Overall, this was just ok.

I wanted to love this, but it just never got to where I wanted it to be. It was emotional, but the scenes just did not bring the emotion I would want when dealing with the serious issues they were dealing with.
I also just never bought into the relationship. It may have been the female narrator when she was reading in the male voice. It just disconnected it for me for some reason.
Overall, it was good but only ok at the same time.
