About this listen

Among the Echoes is a full-length standalone novel.

My name was Dr. Erica Hill. I was a victim, then a witness, and then I ceased to exist altogether.

I may still be breathing, but stripped of my identity, I have long since stopped living. I am invisible, and my life depends on my ability to stay in the shadows.

But he sees me.

Slate Andrews is the embodiment of everything I have been taught to avoid. He’s rich and famous, and one image of him with a woman would earn millions for any paparazzi lucky enough to snap it. He has vowed to protect me with his life, yet he exposes me with his every breath. I should be stronger and walk away. I should disappear. But I’m terrified he would come after me.

I’m on the run, determined not to take him down with me, but absolutely unable to let him go.

My name is Riley Peterson...at least for today.

This novel contains material that may be offensive to some listeners. Including sexual abuse, graphic language, and adult situations. Intended for listeners 18+.

Exciting romantic suspense!

A fast paced story in this audiobook made it great to listen to. The heroine when we first meet is in dire straights ( please note: there are some triggers right off the bat- violence, rape, etc). Then we meet the hero who is the heavyweight boxing champion of the world who is tired of all the publicity and hype and is considering quitting. He has an apartment in a small town in Ohio where he goes to hide out and decompress and that’s where he literally runs into the heroine. Neither of them give their real names and he’s fascinated by how scared she seems to be. As they slowly get to know one another you wonder if either of them will ever tell the other the truth about who they are and once they do will they ever be safe? Narration was well done.

Brilliantly Written

I have absolutely loved every book I've read or listened to by Aly Martinez. This one was no exception. While it had an unpleasant beginning (trigger warning if you are sensitive to subjects such as rape), it was so well written. The depth of this story just kept me hooked. I can't wait to listen to others in the series. This is a standalone, but I realized it was book "2.5" later into the listening process so I will def go back and listen to books 1 and 2.
Can't recommend highly enough. Slate *swoon* <3
These narrators are new to me and did an amazing job. I can't wait to listen to more of their titles.

Great book!

I really enjoyed this book. It had a good amount of action, mystery, and romance. And the narration only helps to enhance this book. Highly recommend.

Love this book!

Another incredible story by Aly Martinez!! I finished this book in two days. It was so captivating. Not to mention the male author had the sexiest voice. I was entranced. Beautiful love story.

heartrending

This story yanked my heart out, reshaped it. and put it back in. Erica is one of the strongest female characters I've been introduced to. Slate, of course, stole my everything. Laura Jennings and Carson Beck are the true voices of this story.

Not bad…

I’m used to a little bit better from this author. However, it was definitely worth listening to.

Love this

I went through the On the Ropes series and I wanted to learn more about Slate and this was as great as the spin off books in that series. Oh my goodness, I love Slate. He was a sweetheart throughout this whole book and then way he treated Erica was beautiful. Erica was strong and a wonderful character, despite their past. Note that we start the book with a really difficult chapter. It could be a trigger as there is abuse. But after that, although there were some harrowing times, the book was pretty low angst. Similarly to the On the Ropes books, I loved how really, the relationship between the couple was so strong and they overcame their challenges- together.

Laura Jennings and Carson Beck narrated all three of the One the Ropes books and they did a great job in this book as well.

- Slate and Erica -

This is one of my all time favorite reads. Aly is amazing, period. But this story just does something to me.

This time I listened to the first half, then switched to reading the rest. Though I didn't LOVE the narration, I didn't hate it either. Slate was absolutely fine. But Erica, I liked the low husky voice in the beginning, it was appropriate then. But I feel like it wasn't what I expected for the whole reading. I would definitely listen to the narrator again, like I said, I didn't hate it. I just wish she would have used other inflections/tones at different points. And maybe she did, as Erica came out of her shell some, but I had to switch back to reading by that point. Not because of the narration, but because of circumstances, listening just wasn't ideal.

Thank you Aly for writing Erica and Slate's story. It is a beautiful one, even if it starts out ugly.

Intense and deep

A gut wrenching scene and the book is off to a whirlwind start. the entire story is about a couple on the run. They change houses, towns, states, names, lifestyles just to stay alive.
One fine moment in between, Erica Hill meets her neighbour Slate Andrews who's a fighter. He scares Erica at first, but soon realises, he's legit a wall behind which she can hide. In whose shade she can rest and breathe easy.
He starts to grow on her, climb like ivy on her heart and protect her from the world
"My fierce need to protect the woman next to me erases all rational thinking. I won’t allow her to be scared again."
He's alpha male, protecting is second nature for him.
The narration was good, I found female narrator's voice constantly shaking though. Maybe she's a mature person. But still very intense and deeply emotional story with violence at the beginning and in the end.
5 stars for sensitive narration
