I really liked this when I thought it was just a good thriller- but it took SUCH a gross and triggering turn! I was so mad, I felt I had been tricked into listening to this. It just left me with such a sick feeling.

I have questions!! Spoiler alert
Reviewed: 11-27-24
I did enjoy this book. But unless I missed an explanation, there are two big glaring holes.
When Connor’s narration happened he was describing a man and a boy- Connor is 9 and would never think a young 20ish guy was a boy! So who was the boy?
Then when Dylan’s character was narrating his experience as a kidnap victim he said there were two people. I can’t remember if he also said a ‘man and a boy’. So who was the other person?
Maybe these questions are answered in subsequent books??

I didn’t think there was a British accent I wouldn’t like… but I wanted to slit my wrist by the time this was over! Every character in this book had the same annoying accent! The storyline got more and more ridiculous as the hours went by, until the final acts of the main character just put me over the edge. So sooooo bad.

I’m glad I didn’t pay for this, the excerpts from the diary are just gross. It’s like the author read bad erotic stories and copied it.

I wanted to kill this narrator…
Reviewed: 11-08-24
Why would someone trust this voice actor with their work?? She either had dentures that were slipping or she was wearing a retainer, or maybe she was smashed while she read… but the disgusting slurring of every s or sh or tion was grossing me out!! She literally stumbled over words at times! Also, she made Sheila sound like a whiny loser. I was going to listen to ‘freak’ but I saw it was the same annoying narrator and I will happily pass!
Ms Hillier was no less annoying when she made her characters do ridiculous things! Sheila carelessly takes a drink from a total stranger and ‘surprise’ he drugged her! A seasoned cop turned PI turns his back on a suspect, and when she slips and divulges info only the killer could know… he continues to turn his back on her AND alerts her that she slipped up by asking her a stupid question… while turning his back on her🤷🏻♀️

Story
To the wider world, Al Pacino exploded onto the scene like a supernova. He landed his first leading role, in The Panic in Needle Park, in 1971, and by 1975, he had starred in four movies—The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, Serpico, and Dog Day Afternoon—that were not just successes but landmarks in the history of film. Those performances became legendary and changed his life forever. Not since Marlon Brando and James Dean in the late 1950s had an actor landed in the culture with such force.

I loved this so much!!! But….
Reviewed: 10-24-24
I only have one complaint about this engaging, fascinating, tender and funny memoir. Al reminisces about several high profile love affairs- is kind and generous about each one. But never mentions the mothers of his children, the sweet memories of their birth and young lives as it pertained to what was happening in his at the time. It didn’t make any sense! Maybe he was being respectful of them? Or maybe he doesn’t speak to Any of them? I don’t know, but I thought it was a glaring hole in the retelling of his life. That frustrated me!

How can you ask the reader to believe that somehow the Secret Service doesn’t figure in this Presidents activities at all??! I’m sorry, but the showdown in the funeral home was RIDICULOUS! The President is just out roaming around free and unattended? And the whole talking the ‘best President we’ve ever had’ into betraying her oath to protect the Constitution…. Really?? I was going to listen to more of this series, but not now.

Had to return
Reviewed: 08-21-24
I was barely 2 hours into this book and I had to return it. The reason I chose this book is because I have listened to three of the authors book collaborations with James Patterson, they were phenomenal! Very smartly, written, intriguing plotline, good dialogue… this is a completely different experience, and not in a good way! I’m sure a lot of it is the narrator, seems like every man in the book has a boss hog voice. I don’t even care to know how the story ends because it wasn’t interesting enough to make me wonder.

I can’t say enough about this amazing take- it’s unbelievably spellbinding!
It keeps you on the edge of your seat, for a lot of reasons… not the least of which is the fact that our modern society bears too strong a resemblance to the rise of ‘Arcadia’.
The narrator is perfection! The last book I feel like she must’ve got a new microphone or something, bc it was picking up dry mouth noises… but she’s so good you barely think of it!
You’ll love this!!
