Story
This is an easily digestible argument about what rights we have, what rights Republicans are trying to take away, and how to stop them. Mystal explains how to protect the rights of women and people of color instead of cowering to the absolutism of gun owners and bigots. He explains the legal way to stop everything from police brutality to political gerrymandering, just by changing a few judges and justices. He strips out all of the fancy jargon conservatives like to hide behind and lays bare the truth of their project to keep America forever tethered to its slaveholding past.

This was a brilliantly illuminating autopsy of the Constitution and why our government/country will continue to fall short of its aspirational goals. Elie’s passionate reading channels all my emotions perfectly. Thank you, sir.

I love this series! The characters are all very unique, endearing and interesting. Can’t wait to see a screen adaptation although I think a Netflix series would be more satisfying for binge-aholics. Keep writing and we’ll keep listening!!

The prompt seemed simple: Race. Your Story. Six Words. Please Send. The answers, though, have been challenging and complicated. In the twelve years since award-winning journalist Michele Norris first posed that question, over half a million people have submitted their stories to The Race Card Project inbox. The stories are shocking in their depth and candor, spanning the full spectrum of race, ethnicity, identity, and class. Even at just six words, the micro-essays can pack quite a punch, revealing, fear, pain, triumph, and sometimes humor.

Love, love , love this book! I only used six words in my review title. Some of the stories were touching, maddening, heartbreaking and uplifting. It made me want to have conversations with friends, family and strangers. And then I wondered what insights might be revealed by applying the same techniques to other topics. Other shared experiences we all struggle with. Again, love this book. Thank you!!

Maybe it’s me...

I really enjoyed the first two parts, even though I struggled with the slang. But the last part was completely annoying. As a black female of 56 yrs, who has endured quite a bit of real disappointment, isolation and tragedy, her whining was grating. That rambling about nonsense was grating. That follower, idol-worshiping mentality was grating. But, maybe it’s just me.

Thank you for writing this book. It explains so much of his previously inexplicable behavior and responses. His poor parenting has damaged him beyond repair and I fear that cycle continue with his own children and their children. How can this cycle of abuse ever be extinguished in your family? I cringe at the thought this psychopathology will continue for generations.
