Story
Pony has been passed from owner to owner for longer than he can remember. Fed up, he busts out and goes on a cross-country mission to reunite with Penny, the little girl whom he was separated from and hasn’t seen in years. Penny, now an adult, is living an ordinary life when she gets a knock on her door and finds herself in handcuffs, accused of murder and whisked back to the place she grew up. Her only comfort when the past comes back to haunt her are the memories of her precious, rebellious pony.

So fun. I have a retired pony at my house, living with my horse, and yes, all of the ponytude is 100% accurate. The story is a fun romp. I completely enjoyed this book!

Story
Aurora De La Torre, or Ora to her friends, knows moving back to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, a place that was once home and is now full of bittersweet memories of her late mother, isn’t going to be easy. Starting your whole life over probably isn’t supposed to be. But after breaking up with her longtime famous musician boyfriend, hiding out in a small town in the mountains might be the perfect remedy for a broken heart. And checking out her landlord who lives across the driveway just might cure it, too. Only Tobias Rhodes didn’t rent out the apartment to her, rather it was his teenage son, Amos.

I found the story and characters unbelievable.
Reviewed: 07-10-24
I liked the start of this book, but after listening a while I had several concerns First, Aurora sounds ridiculously naive. She seems too smart and resourceful to stay in a relationship for 14 years in which she is being repeatedly taken advantage of. Also, in her relationship with Rhodes, still thinking that he did not like her after knowing him for months is rather ridiculous. Second, Rhodes seems overly controlling in their relationship, using pet names before it is appropriate, telling her what she is going to do, and draping his arm around her neck before it is appropriate. Honestly, he seems to have some of the tells of abusive men. If the book had ended earlier, I might have ignored it, but seeing the ridiculous behaviors continue for so long made the issue very obvious and more disturbing.

The narrator is supposed to be a 26 year old Southerner. The audible narrator is a middle-aged northerner. It’s a bit dissonant.

Hard to tell whether it’s a really bad story, or a melodramatic narrator. Not sure why I even listened to the end. Full of clichés, and unnecessarily descriptors.

Really bad book
Reviewed: 01-19-22
This book is bad on so many levels. I am a rider, Olympic level riders don’t just hang out. They work their asses off. They are teaching, Riding young horses, and managing their barns. They don’t just sachet around. Second of all, the story is totally contrived. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen, but it never did. The narration is also terrible. I don’t know anyone that sounds like they are breathlessly having sex when riding their horse.

Story
No connections. Play it safe. These were the rules Ivey lived her life by. Until she hit Mustang, Colorado, a perfectly imperfect town where the citizens were welcoming, and one of them included the tall, beautiful, macho-man rancher cowboy Grayson Cody. On the run for a decade, Ivey knew she was supposed to play it safe. But she was tired of being on the run. She wanted normal. She wanted real. She wanted a home. And she wanted Grayson Cody. And Grayson Cody wanted Ivey.

I tried to return this book after listening to the first line, but Audible would not let me. I decided to listen to see if my first impression was correct. I love mysteries, I like suspense novels, I like some story between the violence. This was one violent scene after another. What is the point?

Story
In 1950s Quebec, French and English tolerate each other with precarious civility - much like Maggie Hughes' parents. Maggie's English-speaking father has ambitions for his daughter that don't include marriage to the poor French boy on the next farm over. But Maggie's heart is captured by Gabriel Phénix. When she becomes pregnant at 15, her parents force her to give baby Elodie up for adoption and get her life "back on track".
