A poor take on history with a clear bias.

The author is to close and opinionated on recent events. It’s unfortunate to call this history. He states false things. Reader does a good job.

reason to live or listen to the book.

Story
Fitzwilliam Darcy takes his responsibilities seriously. He excels in every endeavor he pursues and upholds the highest standards, and he has little patience for those who flaunt their flaws like the Bennets do. Elizabeth Bennet longs for the toe-curling romance she reads about in novels. She dreams of an honorable man - loyal and generous to the less fortunate...everything Mr. Darcy is not.

The narration was flawless, but the story and characters were a bit of a waste as a P and P variation. This is very different which is what I was looking for, but I could’ve wished for more tenderness even during their vexations. the motivations and personalities of the characters move them in ways that weren’t quite plausible. It just felt like a waste of time and money. I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn’t paid for it. :-/

A wonderful man, noble, kind and impossibly handsome. So who falls in love first? What of Mr. Wickham and his dastardly ploys? And how is a lady's companion ever to have a future with one who could marry into the best houses in the land?

I would have liked more of an epilogue. I think the building up on each side was well done. Lizzie is Lizzie and Darcy Is Darcy. And this is low angst and sweet experience. The angsty part was quite angsty enough. The performance was beautiful as always by ms. Zimmerman. Will I listen to this one again and again—maybe—just because it’s soothingly sweet, I think I would.

Stevie Zimmerman is amazing as usual!!!
If you’re an Austenite then hearing all of the character names from all of the novels is pretty exciting!! In the beginning, my husband thought I looked like a kid on Christmas. Almost everything Lady Catherine said in this brought me such delight since she was so altered in a reasonable way—tragedy can do that to you, so it felt exhilarating and fresh instead of all wrong. I do think it would be more enjoyable if you’re not keeping track of all the Crawfords and Jennings and extensions of the Ferris family and so forth—it’s a lot of characters with a lot of expectations from the reader.
Spoilers: listening to Lizzie being influenced like Emma got annoying. Turning Charlotte into something of an Anne Elliot made sense, but Anne is so sacred that it was also hard to listen to. The colonel Fitzwilliam as a Captain Wentworth also made sense and I liked that a lot because he could explain things to Mr. Darcy so well from that perspective. I love Georgiana in this but she goes from being a musician to a writer, so that took some getting used to. Georgiana seems more like a rich Austen herself except less clever. It’s just a lot. And the idea that basically 4/5 girls are either engaged or married by the end is kinda crazy. The only one who didn’t get romantic was Mary of course. I’d rather had gone into the business of the school then spend so many little bits of time into each romance.
Spoilers ended:
I think the undertaking was fun to go along with, but it’s less epic for all it endeavors to do for too many people. I’m glad a story like this exists but it’s not as fun as you’d want it to be I think if you know and love all the characters and want to dive into them all with more depth. I will say that I can’t imagine someone undertaking a project like this and doing it better. I love how the writer wasn’t afraid of really playing with these characters—and dove into what would alter them. It can be difficult as a lover of Austen, but I give loads of credit to the creativity it took to work this!! Bravo!!!

I like a low angst P&P variation as much as the next person. My husband often listens with me because… well, he has to and has also developed some of the same expertise as I have about the characters. But here nothing happens. We have one event along the plot but it’s towards the end of the book and it’s just an event. There are little pieces that divert, which should have been a short story or two maybe. They don’t have to work through much of anything together. They’re just a rich and lustful couple who love each other, which is quite nice except that’s all there is to it. I can take a seggsy scene as well as anyone, but this one has countless and they don’t vary much, so I fail to see the literary purpose for most of them.
The performance of the reader was something I got used to, but her voice seemed a bit too mature or older to be a good match for Lizzie. She did Darcy well enough, which is typically the harder part I think. The tone was low. Her pace was great and her overall skill was good.
Speaking of Darcy—this is a more romantic Darcy. It’s fine, but lacks depth. They speak of depth, but that doesn’t come off of his character defined on the page, just affirmations.
I have read so many of these pieces and i honestly don’t expect much from them, so they often pleasantly surprise me. This one underwhelmed by the end. I was just finishing it for the sake of finishing it since there was zero character development to look forward to seeing fulfilled.
Some people will really like this as some regency erotica that makes Bridgerton, or whatever that show is called, popular. This was made for them.
Not my cup of tea. I was happy through the first half but when nothing beyond what I had already listened to, I was no longer really enjoying the book as much as I was getting through it.

When Elizabeth Bennet first knew Mr. Darcy, she despised him and was sure he felt the same. Angered by his pride and reserve, influenced by the lies of the charming Mr. Wickham, she never troubled herself to believe he was anything other than the worst of men - until, one day, he unexpectedly proposed. Mr. Darcy's passionate avowal of love causes Elizabeth to reevaluate everything she thought she knew about him.
