Story
Fel'annár is a gifted immortal warrior embarking on his first patrol into the Deep Forest. Half-Silvan, half-Alpine, he battles the enemy from without, and the prejudice from within. But he learns more than just warfare when an arcane power begins to emerge, one he cannot control. While friendships are forged, a destiny unfolds, one that is tied to a past he knows nothing about. For others, though, it is only a matter of time before the truth is revealed, and the danger becomes real.

This book jumps around so much I couldn’t tell. After reading for hours, I still have no idea who the people are at war with or why.

Story
Arthur lives with his father, a fallen but proud former noble, in Border Village #49, along with the other good folks condemned to toil in service to the Baron. But Arthur has an edge: a stolen heart card that secretly fell into his possession, thanks to a dragon. It’s a priceless source of power for the Baron and the tyrant will kill to get it back. Invaluable, too, to a young man of spellcasting ambitions.

Reviewed: 10-03-23
The story is definitely compelling. And I was surprised at how well they were able to create a world that was believable, even though it’s a world that revolves around the magic of cards. I guess when you think about it, is it really all that different than the world that’s based on the magic of ones? It’s all arbitrary. But the main character was committed and the plot was very suspenseful
so I’m looking forward to the next one of the series.

Reviewed: 07-24-23
I really wanted to like this book, because the beginning was so interesting with the character going into a tower and getting an attunement. But then it bizarrely becomes a School novel and just gets really tedious and repetitive without any character advancement. Definitely not lit RPG.

Despite being immensely popular - and immensely lucrative - education is grossly overrated. In this explosive book, Bryan Caplan argues that the primary function of education is not to enhance students' skill but to certify their intelligence, work ethic, and conformity - in other words, to signal the qualities of a good employee.

If you like libertarian arguments, you will like this book. Like most libertarians, Caplan believes if the government just gets out of the way, the free market will solve all of our problems….and education is no exception. He spends hundreds of pages explaining everything wrong with education and his solution, just don’t have public funding for education….ok, I guess magical charities can solve this problem also.

This actually has a pretty compelling story. Most of the books in the genre don’t seem to have a main character that has very specific goals, and intelligent antagonist that are trying to stop the main character. This one does. Seriously, I almost exclusively read, lit RPG, I don’t finish 90% of them, but this one I did finish.

Great performance! Story was a bit lacking.

I just felt like I didn’t really learn very much about the gnomes, the whole world that we get to explore is literally comprised of two caves. And at least half the book just seems like the same fight scene over and over again. With that being said, I don’t think it’s the worst dungeon core story, the protagonist was somewhat interesting, and I did get to the end of it, which I don’t with most books in this kind of genre. I still don’t think I’m gonna continue on with this series, unless there’s some audible sales for the book.

The apocalyptic event known as the Reset took place five years ago... In the span of a few seconds, ninety percent of the world's population was killed by a mysterious alien force. The ten percent left had their memories wiped. They were given incredible superpowers and a LitRPG stat system that allowed them to advance their skills. But they lost a lot of technology in the process. Many lost their humanity. Sterling Monedero was one of these survivors.

Mad, Max meets dungeons and dragons
Reviewed: 01-10-23
I didn’t hate this book. I think by far the best aspect of the book was the main character. Definitely has a Clint Eastwood feel to it but with high fantasy and western themes. However, this book is riddled with problems. First of all. There’s no need this book had to be game lit. The character barely references, his stats, and he is wildly powerful when the story begins. You literally see no evolution of this guys powers which is one of the best parts of reading game lit. As a matter fact, all of his friends are so powerful they’re almost immortal status.
Also, there are a lot of repetitive scenes, and there’s just so much talking and internal monologue that it’s very easy for the reader to get board for large swaths of this book. Finally, I just don’t think the author knew what kind of a world he wanted. It’s part open frontier, western, and part post apocalyptic The Walking Dead, kind of. I really had a very hard time visualizing what his world look like.
So why the three stars then? Well, this is a very long book over 14 hours. And I did get to the end of it. Yeah, there were parts that I just wasn’t all that interested in, and it was a bit of a slog at times, but I do think the character of Sterling is interesting enough that made me want to finish. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue on with the series or not, maybe if the books are on sale. However, there are a lot of other things I want to read right now.

It was just supposed to be a quick trip to the pet store for some cat food, but the universe had other plans for Florence Valentine. Good for nothing kids and some annoying store employees were giving her a hard time, and then things got worse when she was killed by a delivery truck. Instead of angels, pearly gates, and eternal rewards, a voice in her head keeps telling her that she’s become a dungeon core, whatever that is.

There is definitely a comedic element (that at times is really hilarious) but it never got so silly that I stopped caring about the MC and her “assistant”. If you are into LITRPG and dungeon core books, this is certainly with your time. I’m looking forward to book 2.
