Publisher's summary

It was just supposed to be a quick trip to the pet store for some cat food, but the universe had other plans for Florence Valentine.

Good for nothing kids and some annoying store employees were giving her a hard time, and then things got worse when she was killed by a delivery truck. Instead of angels, pearly gates, and eternal rewards, a voice in her head keeps telling her that she’s become a dungeon core, whatever that is.

Now people keep coming into her new home, wrecking stuff, and stealing from her. But not everything about this whole ordeal is bad. Not only can Florence decorate her home with a thought, but she can also create the best things in the entire universe — she can create kitty cats.

Should these hooligans keep insisting on coming into her home, well, Florence and her kitties are going to have something to say about that.

I'm glad I went on an adventure with this book

sometimes you start a book because of how ridiculous it sounds. then you get took on an exciting adventure you are not expecting. this book is a good mix between a crazy cat lady and a dungeon core book. that may seem strange but it works surprisingly well. the first thing I did when finished was to look if there was a book two then write this knowing I have to wait for more

My first Dungeon Core

I have listened to a couple LitRPG series (The Land and Viridian Gate) and one other Progression Fantasy (Arcane Ascension) but this is the first Dungeon Core story I've listened to. As a cat owner I approve. Florence's attitude and verbal sparring with Doug are just what I expect from a grumpy geriatric cat lady. The story is entertaining, engaging, and frequently hilarious. The narrator does an excellent job and is particularly convincing as Florence. I love this book and eagerly await the audiobook release for book 2.

Funny

I am not a spring chicken but have a long journey before I reach the age of the lady in this story. Regardless I really loved this story.

could go either way for cat lovers

the story and the dungeon building don't mesh well. it's either/or and makes the book feel a bit 'stop-and-go.' as to the cats.... i love them. the book has lots of cats. i like that. the cats get hurt a lot. i don't like that. the book is like a good B-Movie.

Gnomes are the best

Andrea does a good job. The book is an improvement over some of his other works.

The beginning is a bit painful story wise. The MC starts out pretty unlikable. She's selfish and self entitled. You ask yourself, "when does this book turn into dungeon core?!" And then she dies and that's when things really start. As a dungeon, she's less horrible.

Cute and enjoyable

If you're looking for something full of lore and world building, this is not it. This book is a quick and easy listen. It's full of cute cats with some of the most unfortunate names, a cranky old lady that is equal parts exasperating and endearing, and an interesting take on building a dungeon. There are also a bunch of nods to other litrpgs, if you listen closely enough and know what you're listening for... Dale... gnomes rule.... just to name a couple.

The narrator, as always, is great and really gives each character their own "voice" and personality.

There's only one thing that actually bothered me as a sticking point/plot hole. It's said that the dungeon can seal adventurers in, but then later, a foe escapes because it ran out through what should have been the sealed entrance. Other than that, I enjoyed listening to this book and would recommend it if you want something light and fun to listen to.

Satisfying and fun

Cat Core is fun, funny, entertaining and ends on a satisfying note. Many LitRPGs fall into a trap of being light on character depth, or skipping details, or some other issue that makes a read fun and memorable but not very satisfying. Cat Core is very different. Florence Valentine is an 86yo human woman who finds herself transformed into a dungeon core and we see things from her unique perspective for most of the story. Her decisions on how she builds out her dungeon Home with cat defenders--Domestic Cats--Cute not-so-little furballs who defend their Home fiercely--and the stories of the newbie adventurers who delve her Home are satisfying and I would recommend this to anyone who likes adventuring and Cats.
