Story
When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed. Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed. Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her, and hers towards him. And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she'll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

Story was creative

I liked the story overall. But at times found myself thinking a certain part bothered me. I know it’s fiction. But I kept thinking….there’s no way someone or something who believed in God would just be having casual sex before getting married. He obviously knew about sex, emotions and temptation just hadn’t experienced them. Very unrealistic. Not sure how I feel about God in my romance novel either.
I really did like the ending of the book though.

Just hours after humans are born, the gods take what little power we have. In return, they protect our borders from the vicious, merciless fae. The humans who manage to keep their power are known as the corrupt. And they are burned. When my forbidden power is discovered, I’m forced to flee my tiny village and the life I adore. To survive, I make a desperate bargain with the mercenary who abandoned me at my weakest moment. Our deal is simple: I’ll help him and his mysterious friends sneak into the city, and he’ll help me learn to wield the strange, dark power I’ve always kept hidden.

Didn’t want this book to be over. Really like how this author writes. The ending really shocked me. Missed all the signs about Lorian and his mercenary friends.
Have a feeling Prisca is going to find out Lorian didn’t kill her parents.

Love how this author writes. Oh how the steamy scenes had me heated. Definitely not for YA. Too many romantasy series are targeted for YA and have such lame sex scenes. Absolutely love this series.
The voice of Slade/males was so sexy! Great job.

This book is by far the juiciest. Can’t get enough of this series. So well written. RK does such an awesome job making you feel what the characters are feeling. More than once her descriptions made me feel heated. Found myself just sitting listening in awe. I listened to the whole book in a day. Can’t wait to start on the next book.

Story
For ten years, I lived in a gilded cage inside King Midas's golden castle. One night changed everything. Now I'm here, a prisoner of Fourth Kingdom's army, and I'm not sure if I'm going to make it out of this in one piece. They're marching to battle, and I'm the bargaining chip that will either douse the fire or spark a war.

I can’t put this series down. It’s so good. At first I hated the how Aron was just okay with being put in a cage. How blind she was to King Maddis using her. But as the story goes on she starts to see things more clearly.
I am so tired of books and TV portraying females as whiny, cry babies who depend on men to tell them who to be. Women can love without looking weak and pitiful. Glad she’s toughening up!

I thought ACOTAR and TOG were good. This series is so much better. I literally can’t stop reading it. I’ve read the 1-8 in the last few weeks.
Character and world building is excellent. Series just gets steamier as well. Happy an adult fantasy is worth reading. I’ve noticed a lot of romantasy I’ve read lately is for YA. We need more series like this for adults.
This book is definitely worth reading.

Hard to make it through the book
Reviewed: 01-29-25
I had trouble getting into the book. The narrator didn’t do a very good job differentiating between characters in this book. Having the male narrator (Teddy) with female (Soler) in 1 and 2 was much better. May read myself on kindle to understand a bit better.
The beginning was unbearably slow. I definitely wasn’t at the edge of my seat reading, like the first 2 books. I felt very little suspense. At times I had to keep rewinding because it didn’t hold my attention.
It wasn’t horrible. It was just okay IMO. I expected something very different I guess. It’s been a yr since I read 1 and 2 so maybe I should reread them to really enjoy OS. I actually liked the sex scenes and romance in the other books. Could do without all the F bombs in this book. It doesn’t add to the story. or characters. Makes ppl sound ignorant.
I don’t want to sound so negative. I couldn’t write a book and others want to read it. That does take talent. RY did an excellent job on 1 & 2. I will be looking forward to the next book.
