About this listen

The fae abandoned this world to us. And the ones with power rule.

Gold. Gold floors, gold walls, gold furniture, gold clothes. In Highbell, in the castle built into the frozen mountains, everything is made of gold. Even me.

King Midas rescued me. Dug me out of the slums and placed me on a pedestal. I'm called his precious. His favored. I'm the woman he Gold-Touched to show everyone that I belong to him. To show how powerful he is. He gave me protection, and I gave him my heart. And even though I don't leave the confines of the palace, I'm safe.

Until war comes to the kingdom and a deal is struck.

Suddenly, my trust is broken. My love is challenged, and I realize that everything I thought I knew about Midas might be wrong. Because these bars I'm kept in, no matter how gilded, are still just a cage.

But the monsters on the other side might make me wish I'd never left.

From bestselling author Raven Kennedy comes the first book in the BookTok hit Plated Prisoner series, perfect for fans of Sarah J Maas and Jennifer L Armentrout. The myth of King Midas is reimagined in this compelling adult fantasy series that is as addictive as it is unexpected. With romance, intrigue, and danger, the gilded world of Orea will grip you from the very first word. Intended for mature listeners.

Newly recorded in duet-style narration by Lilly Drake and Anthony Palmini.

Fell in love again!!!!

I read this book a few years ago, then did the audible and fell in love with this series. A reimagined story of King Midas and his gold touch, however in this story there is much more to love. You get introduced to the 6th kingdom, where it’s gray and gloomy; but a Gold Castle sits above the city. Housing King Midas and his favored. Auren, the kings favored leaves men panting, and other women hating her; but she has a story to tell and it’s a wonderful one. This first installment of the Plated Prisoner builds the world of from the POV of Auren, and what a world she lives in. She is kept in a cage only to see the world through glass and iron. But she is determined to see the rest of the world; yet evil lingers near from all other kingdoms. This is journey of a women who has been scared her whole life; but finds herself in a situation that awakens her inner strength.

Slowest moving plot

The plot took forever and I don’t think the relationship between her and the king is well vetted

Depressing but interesting

Definetly not a feel-good read and no spice to really compliment it. I think the series gets better but not the best start so far.

One word: trauma

After reading the reviews, I completed the book but it was hard to. It did pick up at the end but it wasn't easy.
The FMC became very annoying throughout ( by book three it just gets worse) To many internal conversations that would repeat the same issues and feeling.
Trigger warning of narcissistic behavior, manipulation, and the victim behind it all. There is a rape scene not too graphic but it's there.
I stopped the series at book three, it had a good story just couldn't handle the FMC.

A good read

I loved the book but the plot was a bit shallow. Not much actually happened but the story was written in a pace where you think something will. So it kept my attention. A bit disappointed on the characters as well. Just not much depth there

Grilling ending!

At first it feels a little slow, but as you keep going something about the story gripped me. I could t stop! Some surprises come up that I wasn’t expecting! Can’t wait to listen to the next one! Enjoyed the narrators as well. It’s fun there is man and a woman.
