About this listen

"You want to make your life easier? Then be the caged bird that you are and sing."

For ten years, I lived in a gilded cage inside King Midas's golden castle. One night changed everything.

Now I'm here, a prisoner of Fourth Kingdom's army, and I'm not sure if I'm going to make it out of this in one piece. They're marching to battle, and I'm the bargaining chip that will either douse the fire or spark a war.

At the heart of my fear, my worry, there's him—Commander Rip. Known for his brutality on the battlefield, his viciousness is unsurpassed. But I know the truth about what he is.

Fae.

The betrayers. The murderers. The ones who nearly destroyed Orea, wiping out Seventh Kingdom in the process. Rip has power sizzling beneath this skin and glinting spikes down his spine. But his eyes—his eyes are the most compelling of all.

When he turns those black eyes on me, I feel captive for an entirely different reason. I may be out of my cage, but I'm not free, not even close.

In the game of kings and armies, I'm the gilded pawn. The question is, can I outmaneuver them?

This is the captivating second book of the BookTok hit Plated Prisoner series. It's an adult epic fantasy story blending romance, intrigue, and beautiful imagery. Return to the seductive story of magic inspired by the myth of King Midas, and get caught up in the world of Orea. Intended for mature listeners.

Newly recorded in duet-style narration by Lilly Drake and Anthony Palmini.

No notes. It was perfect. One of my new favorite series ever. I love Auren’s character development in this book

Picks up the pace

This sequel to the first installment is where things really start to get interesting. I’m glad I knew this going in, the first book is kind of preliminary and very much sets up the rest of the story. Knowing this I committed myself to listening to book 1&2 regardless of my opinion of the first book. I am happy to report that I am definitely hooked now.
The story: it definitely picks up pace here, and I really enjoyed the new cast of characters. It can be a little tough to listen to Auren sometimes, I found myself saying “oh girlllll” sometimes and cringing. But I also reminded myself many of her thoughts and actions are shaped by her past and trauma, and her naïveté is a result of that as well. It was nice to see this character grow some during this installment and I’m looking forward to seeing that even more in future books.
The narration: fantastic. My only complaint is the Queen Malina chapters. The narrator does a great job changing her voice to differentiate between the two women, however I found the Malina chapters to drag out a little because they are read a little more slowly and dramatically. I did end up putting these chapters on 1.2x and this solved the issue for me personally. Otherwise, I felt the narration was phenomenal, and improved the story a lot for me. I am not sure I would have made it through these books if I was reading physical copy and hearing some things read in my own head, but something about having it read to you makes it easier to digest.

I would give 4.5 if I could, purely from an enjoyment standpoint and I’m itching to get my hands on the next book! Already pre-ordered the audio version :)

Glint

If you could see the text messages while I read this book. My mind is blown. I never saw that coming… How did I not see that coming? I am shocked…. I hate Midas. I hate Malina. I want to shake Auren. I don’t even know where to start when it comes to Rip. I don’t know how to process what just happened. I really don’t. All I know is I need to read Gleam ASAP!

Better than the 1st!

This one did have less sex in it and with that alone it made this book wonderful. The world building, the characters and the drama was amazing. In so many way I could relate to Auren and her ignorance but man this book will make you want more. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Much better

The first book made me crazy with the Stockholm and such. This book was 1000% better. The narrators are fantastic! I’ve never heard the female narrator before this series, but she’s so talented. The male narrator I’ve heard in GA books but he outdid himself here.
