What a hidden gem!!!

This is one of the best epic adventures I have ever read. Who knew! Plot twists, adventure, a little romance, some swashbuckling, Intricate weaving of relationships, the unveiling of backstories at just the right time, some good humor, and even some teaching of morals and ethics, too. I was impressed with the whole tale, which kept me on the edge of my figurative seat.

I am impressed by the truths and lies explained by the author; all very eye opening. I hate how it reads like an infomercial or a soap opera (more about this in the next chapter). And when he does get to some final answers, after spending the whole book backing his reasoning with good scientific evidence, he fails us by justifying his extreme recommendations by saying essentially, "It works for me and so it should work for you." I'm sorry that's only anecdotal evidence or a study based on a population of n=1. And for as much as he accused the medical industry of being financially biased, his final recommendations seem to be very biased towards things that he promotes. Almost seems like he's got something to gain from several of them.
As negative as this review may seem, the book really did present a lot of good information and will make you rethink how you eat and what real or fake benefits (or harm) there may be to the medicines you take.

Story
Is Atheism Dead? is an entertaining, impressively wide-ranging, and decidedly provocative answer to that famous 1966 Time cover that itself provocatively asked “Is God Dead?” In a voice that is by turns witty, muscular, and poetic, Metaxas intentionally echoes C. S. Lewis and G. K. Chesterton in cheerfully and logically making his astonishing case, along the way presenting breathtaking - and often withering - new evidence and arguments against the idea of a Creatorless universe.

Great scientific perspective on the reality of God. I agree with so much of what he has to say. The ultimate scientific experiment is to act in faith and see what the Lord does. My experience is that He responds every time... pretty repeatable and consistent results.
The auther seems to be a little exteme in his views of non-Christian faiths. But he's probably not too far out of line with "mainstream" Christianity's view. There's so much good in so many religions. I wonder how the author would explain what happens to the multitudes of God's creations who never had the opportunity to hear of or know Jesus in this life. I do believe salvation comes only through Him. But I've only found one group of Christians that has a good answer, and it's not "mainstream" Christianity.

Story
The opportunity to tour Israel came at a good time. For months, my life has been a mindless plodding through necessary routine, as monotonous as an all-night shift on an assembly line. Life gets that way sometimes, when nothing specific is wrong but the world around us seems drained of color. My weekly worship experiences and daily quiet times with God have felt as dry and stale as last year's crackers. I'm ashamed to confess the malaise I've felt. I have been given so much. Shouldn't a Christian's life be an abundant one, as exciting as Christmas morning, as joyful as Easter Sunday?

Story
April 16th, the year is 1963. Birmingham, Alabama, has had a spring of nonviolent protests known as the Birmingham Campaign, seeking to draw attention to the segregation against Blacks by the city government and downtown retailers. The organizers longed to create a nonviolent tension so severe that the powers that be would be forced to address the rampant racism head on. Recently arrested was Martin Luther King, Jr.... It is there in that jail cell that he writes this letter; on the margins of a newspaper he pens this defense of nonviolence against segregation.

Reviewed: 03-27-23
Truth really is stranger than fiction. As "apart" as this "other" world is, it is right next door. It is the world we live in.
I have gained a new understanding of what China was and is, and I recognize a new appreciation for individuals and families who are oppressed around the world.
I also realize more fully my appreciation for the freedom that is ours.
