Publisher's summary

"Who is this man, this Scarlet Pimpernel?" Each day this question grew more pressing to the leaders of the French Revolution. Only this man and his band of followers threatened their total power. Only this maddeningly elusive figure defied the vast network of fanatics, informers, and secret agents that the Revolution spread out to catch its enemies.

Some said this man of many disguises, endless ruses, and infinite daring was an exiled French nobleman, returned to wreak vengeance. Others said he was an English lord, seeking sheer adventure and supreme sport in playing the most dangerous game of all. But of only one thing could those who sought him be sure. They knew all too well the symbol of his presence: the blood-red flower known as the Scarlet Pimpernel.

Critic reviews

"A swashbuckling adventure tale of epic proportions...an exciting, fast-paced story." (Large Print Reviews)
"Arguably the best adventure story ever published, and certainly the most influential that appeared during the early decades of the 20th century." (Gary Hoppenstand)

Nicely Done Audiobook!

As is usually the case, the book is even better than the movie, which I also quite liked. The movie was funny but the book was more suspenseful. Interestingly, the book is more told from Marguerite's perspective which adds a different element. The reader was also very good.

A must-read for historical fiction fans (IMHO)

Very entertaining story of love, conflict and bravery set during the French Revolution. Expertly narrated. One of the few books in my Audible library I've listened to multiple times.

Reclaiming The Flame

This is a love story that is more about reclaiming a flame that hadn’t quite gone out, rather than the passion of a new romance. Most of us will never face a life or death situation but how many of us wish our other half would do ‘whatever is necessary’ (life or death, big or small, tough or easy) to win us back? How many of us choose to be the one to do whatever is necessary to be by our loved one’s side… even if it ends badly?

(P.S. I REALLY love it when the narrator is good enough that they can convincingly say foreign words I can't even begin to prounce. :D Lol!)

A Favorite Story, excellently read

The Scarlet Pimpernel has been a favorite since Ibwas young, and I've read it many, many times. it was delightful to hear the inimitable Ralph Cosham bring it to life anew.

what a classic.

during the French massacre of their nobility, a stranger is trying to rescue the nobles and bring them to England. A young French lady who is married to a noble top gets dragged into the rescue of her beloved brother. things get complicated when she rushes to France to warn the mysterious Pimpernel and rescue said brother. good times for all involved. except the revolutionary French killers

A classic tale is a classic for very good reasons

A well written story is really timeless. This is an excellent example since it was first published in 1905. It is enjoyable, and entertaining, as well as being a great listen. The reader even pronounces guillotine properly. :-)

High adventure

The narrator made good use of multiple voices. The story is a great talent of high adventure.
