Quirk taken to the sewers! Constituent Services in a world filled with quirky aliens? Scalzi does it again. His humor iis different from pretty much anyone else, and immensely fun. Enjoy.

Is because noone is willing to make the bold steps needed for a chance at change.

Good cast. Illogical that the characters weren't snatched up and escorted to as black site with all their bumbling around.

The world is one second from midnight - and given the opportunity to possibly make a difference, good or bad, the main character disappoints. At least I didn't have to waste a credit.

Keep listening for the story. Birdy (Don't call me that!) has always been the 'small town oddball' with the talent noone understood. After the death of her beloved parents, she takes off for a year on her father's old motorcycle to find others like herself and hopefully learn how to manage it.

Sailing back into the town she loves, no matter that she was an outcast to all but a small circle of friends, she is happy to be back. But all is not well in town. Dirty politics, secrets and lies, and of course, murder, are changing things, and not always for the good.

Humor, excitement, heartbreaking answers, all wrapped up in a magical small southern town lead to a 3 book series that kept me listening.

Recommended.

I loved the first 3 books very much. What killed me on the tale is on me - I have been looking for humor, which this had, good writing, ditto. Great narration-yep. What killed it for me was the loss of one of my two favorite secondary sweetheart characters. I simply can't do sad right now, I cried. Maybe I can go back to finish later, but right now sad doesn't do it for me.

I have been considering the Blue Moon Series for a while. When I saw this free short on Amazon, it seemed a good way to check it out.

Read by Virtual Voice, it has the drawbacks of any robotic reading. The woman's voice was the same as Tempest's - a great reason NOT to listen to Virtual Voice! - but with that in mind, if the series is read by a real human, I will give it a chance. Tempest seems like a good guy, and the premise is cute. Hopefully, it will also contain humor!

No dignity or self-respect. Toxic characters

To start off, approximately the first three chapters of this book were a complete blast. I really thought I had found a new 'Must Buy" author, and was So Happy.

Then, of course, the whole thing blew up in my face.

Sent to Paris as a Courier to deliver a magnificent golden statuette, Aisling walks in on a nightmare. Confronted by a male who identifies himself as a detective, he is anything but. Instead, he is a thief - and apparently a murderer and demon summoner. He also is an arrogant, self involved monster with no care for the pain and devastation his theft of the precious item under her care - and then of course there is the whole shoving her into a bloody dead body with the cops coming up the stairs - will wreak on her life. He has no care that she will be locked away in a French prision for murder. Will lose her family and friends, her life destroyed. So, what happens? Of course, she throws herself at him like someone who regularly works a street corner, showing no sign of self respect, dignity, or the slightest hint of self preservation.

I can understand finding guys pretty, flirting and even taking them for a test drive. However, in a situation such as this, after he treats her this way - while making it quite clear she is Totally Unappealing in a physical way - she still spreads 'em like a pro. She deserves to live out her life in a rat infested French cell.

Of, course, as the series continues, I take it that is not what happens, but I could absolutely care less. If I cannot respect a character (or, in this case, characters) the author gets a strike-off and this reviewer warns others of exactly what they are in for should they not take care.

So Seriously Disappointed.

RJ always makes me smile with this series. Irreverent, funny, but with a true grasp on the horrors of humanity, Never has "The Devil made me do it" been more appropriate. You really SHOULD dive into this series of books! I prefer starting with "Chip on Her Shoulder" then going through the rest in order, as we really start at the beginning that way. You don't have to read them in order, I suppose, but everything will make much more sense if you do. Though the stories are centered on different main characters mostly, the overriding story arc carries through and makes these books spectacularly warm and loving but with enough brash and quirky humor to make even the most sour reader smile. My PTSD Adores the whole series!

I really tried to listen. Really. However, before we even get to the eruption I fell into a brain fog of boredom. I didn't care about the stupid band, the idiot dad paying for 12 years for his kid to get a bachelor's, (come on! Kids have to learn to grow up! Get him some drug addiction treatment, Dude!) or anything else about the characters. I would be just as happy to see them all dropped into the caldera. Ugh. This was my first Turtledove, and my last. Time is much too short, and actually Good audio books are too numerous.

Simon is always a favorite-deeply intricate, amazingly created characters ... and of course, it is always three. o'clock in the morning in the nightside...

I have followed Simon's work for years, but come back always to the Nightside. I have all the novels, but the audio books are my goto. The accents make everything real! Highly recommended!

Wow. What do kids have to do these days to warrant even a cross word from their parents? Burn down whole neighborhoods and dance naked down the street with a big sign saying 'I did it, and killed all their pets and kids too'?
