Story
Among Americans, diabetes is more prevalent today than ever. Obesity is at epidemic proportions; nearly 10% of children are thought to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. And sugar is at the root of these, and other, critical, society-wide, health-related problems. With his signature command of both science and straight talk, Gary Taubes delves into Americans' history with sugar: its uses as a preservative, as an additive in cigarettes, the contemporary overuse of high-fructose corn syrup.

Really not much more to say. The book doesn't explain so much about the science of the dangers of sugar as it reviews the history and scientific treatment of sugar. But in many ways that is scarier than knowing all about the different effects sugar has on the body. However, you will get a good understanding of the biggest biochemical issues as well.

Great performance.
Any additional comments?
The book was great. As expected from Dan Brown. (I have read or listened to many of his books over the years.) And I have no intention of seeing the movie, as I am sure I will be disappointed. Even though, ironically, it was the movie poster that informed me about the book, and prompted me to read it.
On a deeper level, I notice that Dan Brown actually raises some very interesting issues through his books, including in this one.
A great listen. I was sad to have it end.

In this groundbreaking book, New York Times bestselling author Steven Kotler decodes the mystery of ultimate human performance. Drawing on over a decade of research and first-hand reporting with dozens of top action and adventure sports athletes like big wave legend Laird Hamilton, big mountain snowboarder Jeremy Jones, and skateboarding pioneer Danny Way, Kotler explores the frontier science of “flow”, an optimal state of consciousness in which we perform and feel our best.

What about Jeff Cummings’s performance did you like?
The performance was very good.
Any additional comments?
As a software developer / "hacker" (as in "Hackers and Painters"), I was hoping for more information about how to increase my own performance, techniques for entering and staying in flow, and how to optimize this state. The book contained some nuggets relating to this. But there was to much "story" and stuff about athletic performance, and not enough "answers" for my use. However, it was still valuable, and I am investigating what else the author has to offer, as well as more on the topic in general.

I love the performance of John Lee. He speaks beautifully, in my opinion, and brings the characters to life.
Any additional comments?
I have previously listened to the Void Trilogies, and the lastest follow-up. But I loved that this book was a little more "technological" (less "magical"), and that it gave lots of good background to many of the characters and on the Commonwealth itself.
I downloaded the second book within minutes of finishing the first.
