Story
Possibly the darkest and most shocking six scary short stories yet ever created from bestselling author Stephen R. King. An instinct of passion and disrespect for decency and humanity fill this volume of life experiences we mostly keep in the back of our conscience, never wanting to bring to the forefront. Its truly sick!

Some of the smartest commentary about what’s happening in America is coming from a comedian—this comedian being Bill Maher. If you want to understand what’s wrong with this country, it turns out that one of the best informed and most thought-provoking analysts is this very funny pothead.

Always right on point. So glad to hear reason and humor from someone who is willing to say what they think about the facts as they are! As a fan of his show, I rarely miss an episode and hearing these again made me chuckle and nod the whole time. Thanks!

Chris and Cathy made such a loving home for 14-year-old Jory - so handsome, so gentle. And for Bart, who had such a dazzling imagination for a nine-year-old. Then the lights came on in the house next door. Soon the Old Lady in Black was there, watching them, guarded by her strange old butler. Soon she had Bart over for cookies and ice cream and asked him to call her "Grandmother". And soon Bart's transformation began....

The story was good. I read these as a youngster many years ago and they had more of an impact back then. It was enjoyable to rehash the story. Not sure about the performer. He was good as Jory and Chris but as a female voice and as Bart it was a little odd… some manage this better. Overall a fun “beach read” type of novel.

On the North American continent, Native American tribes carried out abductions against the new European settlers from the time they first set foot on eastern shores. Some of the women taken in the colonial to early American period went on to become respected figures in their new environments, while others lived out their lives as slaves.

The story was fascinating but the narration was painful. The narration gets clipped and is almost like a computer is reading. Recommend reading print instead.

A very different story of the “conquest” from an interesting viewpoint … sort of a surreal history in an updated mode of writing. Very enjoyable.

Story
In the summer of 1913, the wooden-hulled brigantine Karluk departed Canada for the Arctic Ocean. At the helm was Captain Bob Bartlett, considered the world’s greatest living ice navigator. The expedition’s visionary leader was a flamboyant impresario named Vilhjalmur Stefansson hungry for fame. Just six weeks after the Karluk departed, giant ice floes closed in around her. As the ship became icebound, Stefansson disembarked with five companions and struck out on what he claimed was a 10-day caribou hunting trip. Most on board would never see him again.

Excellent story

I loved this story as the range of topics BK covers somehow seems metaphysically guided towards me. She is a great writer. I love Mexico City, Merida, Chichen Itza - all places I have been and saw come alive from the past in her telling. Recently I saw many of the murals and the Frida paintings and her home and hearing this story really came so alive- it was strange. I long to return to Coyacan again and xochimilco and think about these stories within stories. I must admit however BK ‘s narration style was less than stellar and took some time to settle into. A story such as this deserved a great vocal performer with acting skills to measure up to the writing. If she had only read the parts written by Violet that would have been better too. I almost stopped listening to read the book. Overall though was excellent and I do love her writing!
