I should’ve read the reviews

Thank goodness this book was free. This story could’ve wrapped up in half the time and still be too much.

Too many words!

This author over does it on descriptions, minute unimportant details that made me stop paying attention. I skipped over whole chapters.

Hated the narration.

Didn’t enjoy the narrators voice or accent. Made it hard to keep listening. Also, ending seemed anti-climatic.

Story
The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler's armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.

Disappointed.

For starters, the narrarator confused me by having the character of Alexander speak with a Scottish brogue. Then his female voices were aweful. The story was about 20 chapters too long with repetitive dialogue and so much unnecessary sexual content. We get it, they had a lot of sex. I don't have to know every detail of the million times they did. And I'm sorry, but this story was not believable in anyway, I kept listening hoping it would improve and it did not. I definitely will not be listening to the other 2 of this series, I don't think I could take it!

Story
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

I couldn't stop listening! Great story line, but listening to the reader tell the story made it come alive. Fantastic
