Soooooo Good

Omg….I have been waiting for the release of this book since I heard it was coming out and it did not disappoint! To say I am heartbroken is not an understatement. You know a little about what is going to happen going in, but the little Easter Eggs and connections made are well worth the read. The narration was perfect! I hope Jefferson White continues to narrate because he has a great talent for it. Don’t pass this one up!

Story
Home alone with her young children during a blizzard, a mother tucks her son back into bed in the middle of the night. She hears a noise—old houses are always making some kind of noise. But this sound is disturbingly familiar: it’s the tread of footsteps, unusually heavy and slow, coming up the stairs. Shrouded in the shadows, she sees the figure of a man appear down the hallway. Terrified, she quietly wakes her children and hustles them into the oldest part of the house, a tiny, secret room concealed behind a wall.

What a crazy suspenseful ride!

I couldn’t stop listening. The story was a bit tedious at parts with long, drawn-out descriptions but the plot itself was propulsive and the tension carried throughout. The ending was satisfying too.

The worst thing to ever happen on Hemlock Circle occurred in Ethan Marsh’s backyard. One July night, ten-year-old Ethan and his best friend and neighbor, Billy, fell asleep in a tent set up on a manicured lawn in a quiet, quaint New Jersey cul-de-sac. In the morning, Ethan woke up alone. During the night, someone had sliced the tent open with a knife and taken Billy. He was never seen again. Thirty years later, Ethan has reluctantly returned to his childhood home. Plagued by bad dreams and insomnia, he begins to notice strange things happening in the middle of the night.

I love a book that can combine a little bit of crime investigation with paranormal aspects. The main character was a little too negative and judgy, and the love connection happened way too late in the book for me, but overall I enjoyed the plot line and the listen. Narration was also on point.

Story
Now reduced to a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. While most people assume seventeen-year-old Lenora was responsible, the police were never able to prove it. Other than her denial after the killings, she has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside Hope’s End, the cliffside mansion where the massacre occurred.

Great as always
Reviewed: 06-21-23
I love a good Riley Sager book! The story line kept my attention throughout. I guessed at a few reveals through the story but was mostly surprised at the twists and turns. The ending kind of threw me though. I felt like Kit was kind of abandoned after all she had went through and done for the other characters. I know she re-joined them later but it still irked me. Overall a great narration and a good story!

Wow!

The first half went kind of slow, with a build-up to the intense drama of the second half. By the middle of the book, I couldn’t stop listening! And even when I reached the end, where I tried to guess about things that had happened in the past or where the story was going, I was still surprised and shocked by the twists and turns. It was brilliant! I love Brittany Pressley as a narrator, too. She never disappoints.
