Story
Barry Laverty, M.B., can barely find the village of Ballybucklebo on a map when he first sets out to seek gainful employment there, but already he knows that there is nowhere he would rather live than in the emerald hills and dales of Northern Ireland. The proud owner of a spanking-new medical degree and little else in the way of worldly possessions, Barry jumps at the chance to secure a position as an assistant in a small rural practice. At least until he meets Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly.

The narrator was great!!!
Reviewed: 10-19-24
The narrator was awesome and you could distinctly tell who each character was.
The story has lots of holes, and I had to listen twice to put everything together… and no I don’t have any issues with the accents… the story was just not complete.

Graceful, Charming, Thoughtful and Humble - Katie Ledecky’s Memoir is the Whole Package
Reviewed: 08-11-24
When listening to a work of fiction, I expect the narrator to BE each individual character, to include accents and dialects.
When I listen to a person’s memoir, I want to hear their story, from their perspective and, if possible, in their own voice. Katie Ledecky has the same light hearted and joyful voice as all of the interviews you’ve ever heard her speak. She reads her book as if you are one of her close friends, sitting on the couch across from her as she regales you with her amazing story! You can almost picture her lovely grin and playful demeanor as she talks to you.
I love that her passion for swimming, family, friends, causes she champions, mentorship of young kids, and integrity for herself and holding accountable all international swimmers to anti-doping rules, is woven throughout the book. Each chapter builds onto the next and weaves a beautiful picture of her life… with all of the ups and downs, twists and turns that life gives us, and she works through each thing with a servant’s heart, humility and grace.
I am happy to say that all ages in my household loved this book, both in written and audio formats! All of us happen to be swimmers as well - most recreational/club or Master’s, and one long distance swimmer. We are proud that Katie Ledecky represents the US internationally.
I believe that you will love this book as much as we did!

I love the vivid word pictures and Barbra Rosenblat brings them to life in my imagination!!
Reviewed: 12-17-23
I have red and listened to Dorothy Gilman’s books over and over for years! No one reads like Ms. Rosenblat and after hearing the entire series read by her, all other narrators are intolerable (even if they are amazing narrators) because Ms. Rosenblat IS Mrs. Polifax and makes the characters come to life!! I waited to purchase some of the books in the series because Audible had other narrators reading the books. Now I have the entire series with Ms. Rosenblat reading and I am listening to each one, in order, all over again! These are great stories and vividly read!
My go to for long drives, quiet time before bed and while doing the dishes! Mrs. Polifax makes the boring things less mundane and they fly by!

Excellent on ALL levels!

This book is written in a way that anyone with ADHD can not only get through, but understand and relate to very easily! It is also extremely simple to navigate through each chapter, in the event you are having ADHD paralysis and can only focus on one topic at the moment!
Some (okay most) of the chapters are like they are reading my mind… and the ones that I don’t specifically identify with, I see in either or both of my children!! It is so hard to be compassionate with the issues when EVERYONE in the household has ADHD.
That said, I have a better understanding and self-compassion since reading (yes I bought the book) and listening to this book. We do both at our house!!
Regarding the Floordrobe: while my son adamantly denies having a floordrobe (his clothes are all dumped into the clear drawers in his room) we have started jokingly referring to his mess as a LEGObrick floor - the entire floor surface is covered with LEGOs and the most recent project - because he has to be able to SEE every available LEGO piece. Hey, as long as he doesn’t fuss about he pain of stepping on them - My daughter and I’ll have my floordrobe and he will have his LEGObrick floor! LOL
One last thing: I find both Roxy and Richard very easy to listen to. They both have a calmness to their speech that instantly puts me (and my kids) at ease. You can immediately tell from word one, that this is not a book that is going to accuse you of failing (yet again) or heap shame upon the piles you’ve already heaped upon yourself!
This is a very short, easy MUST READ that will change the way you think about yourself if you have ADHD, and will likely allow your partner to understand you a bit better!!

Excellent narrator… but not for this series
Reviewed: 06-26-22
While I do enjoy listening to this narrator, one just cannot get into the story the same way (as all of the precious books) because John McDonnaugh has solidified the voices of Father Tim, Cynthia, and all of the Mitford crew in our minds.
Well written, good story… it lacks the finishing touch of the right narrator.

I wish they had used John MacDonnough for this book. Like the rest of the series. This narrator has terrible distinction between characters and sings OFF KEY!!! Ugh!!! Loved reading the book, though, and heard it in my head as John M. Would have read it... she totally botched Uncle Billy!!!

Story
Millions of Karon fans will be thrilled that it's life as usual in the wildly popular Mitford series: A beloved town character lands a front-page obituary, but who was it, exactly, who died? And what about the former mayor, born the year Lindbergh landed in Paris, who's still running for office? All this, of course, is but a feather on the wind compared to Muse editor J. C. Hogan's desperate attempts to find a cure for his marital woes. Will it be high-def TV or his pork chop marinade?

If you were listening to the story for the first time, and have not listened to any of the other Mrs. Pollifax series, then the narrator does an adequate job. But, she's no Barbara Rosenblat. Barbara Rosenblat brings a light and life to the Mrs. Pollifax series that no other narrator who has been able to equal. Many of us who have Heard all this, including this book, narrated by Barbara Rosenblatt, I have requested that audible obtain the recording. Until now, it is still not available. My home, is that one day, audible will make it available to us. Otherwise, I will have to continue to listen to this narrator each time I listen to the series all the way through.

Amelia Peabody embarks on her first Egyptian adventure armed with unshakable self-confidence, a journal for her thoughts, and, of course, a sturdy umbrella. On her way, she rescues Evelyn Barton-Forbes, who has been "ruined" and abandoned on the streets of Rome by her lover. With a typical disregard for convention, Amelia promptly hires her fellow countrywoman as a companion and takes her to Cairo, where strange visitations and a botched kidnapping convince Amelia that there is a plot afoot to harm Evelyn.
