Story
I never minded being locked up. I learned a long time ago that being treated like an animal gives you permission to act like one. Their only mistake is believing anything I do is an accident. I can sit in this house with no internet, television, liquor, or girls, but I'll come out of here with something far more frightening to my enemies. A plan. I just didn't expect one of my enemies to come to me. I can smell her hiding in the house. She's here. Blackchurch houses five prisoners. I'm only one of her problems.

Serious abuse and rapey. Couldn’t finish.
Reviewed: 03-27-24
Just the emotional and physical abuse is overwhelming. No means no means no means no. That includes grabbing or incapacitating a girl/woman even without sexual aspects. This book glorifies “the guy who won’t accept no” wins the day every time. I felt like I should finish the books, but I just feel more dirty as I go on.

Like the entire book, the entire time. Beware if you have trauma. I don’t mind the darker side of romance, but this one was different.

I understand series are all the rage. I understand that’s how authors make money. I’m completely fine with that. Here’s my gripe with this book. Any book should have a beginning, climax and end. This book leads you to a dead-end that completely unsatisfying compared to the enjoyable reading style. Instead, I felt like I was being manipulated to buy the next, rather than choosing to. I didn’t buy the next book. Because maybe the next one will do the same and I find this approach insulting my intelligence.

Glad I read the bad narrator reviews in advance

I generally don’t pay any attention to the narrator names so glad ppl posted about it in reviews. I loved this narrator in the Blood and Ash (Jennifer Armentrout) series so I just went in ready for a change. With that mental prep, I was fine. Wondering if there’s more books coming. Seems like hinting at other side-character relationships… will see.

What was the point of this? There was hints of a plot to come then, the book just abruptly ended. Is this some experiment on an anti-happily-ever-after? I guess it’s ideal was good, but the execution was painful and the first book from Audible (and I’ve read a lot of silly stuff) I truly felt cheated of an actual book waste of money - I wouldn’t have expected this from an established author.

I've never been afraid of the dark...but that doesn't mean I wanted to live in it. Maybe everyone wants what they can't have, but I should've thought it over before I unlocked the door to their forbidden world. Number One is mostly silent. He watches me very carefully. Number Two is mostly gentle. But it's the other side of him I like best. Number Three is mostly reserved. It was carnal, it was sensual, and it was erotic. That's it. That's all it was supposed to be. A trip into the dark. A peek into the forbidden. I just didn't expect to like them.

Really great book. One of the only romance/kinky books I’ve considered rereading. My only complaint is the total misrepresentation of mental health / psychiatry ethics and privacy. Need some serious research into mental health and HIPAA privacy laws to make some portions remotely plausible. All said, even with above criticism, I REALLY loved it.

LOVE all these books. Just a warning with those with PTSD, large portions of this book gave me serious triggers. I can’t tell you what type of scenes w/o giving away a MAJOR plot spoiler. I forced my way through it and overall it was worth it. Though if I ever reread this series, I might skip it.
