Story
For too long had the Vth Legion ranged out beyond the sight of the wider Imperium, remaining ignorant of the Warmaster's rebellion and the war that inevitably followed. Only once their primarch, Jaghatai Khan, had satisfied himself that the path before them was just and true did the White Scars choose a side, taking the fight to the traitors on every front.

this book was a real slog until it got closer to the final act and then things got great. some awesome action and great story events and some ties to older White Scars books. also the narration was pretty fantastic, really put emotion into the voices.

Story
Exile to the miserable world of Sedh, the disgraced Necron Lord Oltyx is consumed with bitterness. Once heir to the throne of a dynasty, he now commands nothing but a dwindling garrison of warriors, in a never-ending struggle against Ork invaders. Oltyx can think of nothing but the prospect of vengeance against his betrayers, and the reclamation of his birthright. But the Orks are merely the harbingers of a truly unstoppable force. Unless Oltyx acts to save his dynasty, revenge will win him only ashes.

Started Slow but Got Really Good!
Reviewed: 08-08-24
For the first few chapters I really wasn't into this story and was wishing for it to be over already, but once it was past the first battle, things started to slowly grab my interest. By the end I felt very attached to the characters and loved their development, especially as it was unexpected for Necron characters. The mystery aspect of the story kept me very interested as well and the reveals felt rewarding.
Overall I'm happy there's a second one I can jump right into next!

Story
The galaxy burns at Horus' command, and a billion more lives are lost with each passing moment - though it was not always so. Once, the title of Warmaster stood for honour, loyalty and a fierce pride in the strength of the Space Marine Legions. But perhaps by following the myriad lines of destiny and defiance that were already woven around the primarchs and their sons, we may yet come to understand the bitterness that can eat away at even the most steadfast of souls....

Most Stories are Boring
Reviewed: 07-03-24
It's another book full of short stories and it feels like filler. Iron Corpses, Long Night, and maybe Eagle's Talon are good ones but they're all easily available separately and the rest of the stories feel very skippable and unengaging.

Story
With only one bastion still standing on the once unconquerable fortress world of Aranua, Warboss Gazrot Goresnappa should be basking in the light of impending victory. Instead, he lies ‘proppa dead’ beneath a decapitated Gargant’s head. The biggest and baddest bosses from each of the six (no-longer-united) clans step forward to duke it out to become the next warboss – but the ork gods have other plans. A prophecy foretells of a mysterious gate that lies beneath the human city. The one true warboss will be the first to find it, and will use it to turn the galaxy green.

Best Ork Story So Far
Reviewed: 05-30-24
I don't think you could have made a more perfect Ork story, but that's what I thought about Brutal Kunnin when I read that, so I can only imagine Mike Brooks' next Ork book will prove me wrong again. Also I have to say this narrator was the best Ork narrator I've heard. I swear he hardly ever reused a voice for any character and they were all extremely compelling voices. That guy has talent!

Brielle of the Wild Hydras escapes the slaughter and is cast into the deepest levels of the underhive.

Not as Good as the First, but Not Bad
Reviewed: 07-28-23
The previous book had my full attention the whole way through. This one had some really great scenes but there's a couple hours' worth of this book that was just uninteresting dialogue and details that I think could have been dropped and the story would still make sense. I'm usually a big fan of the little details in 40k but these felt bland sometimes. Despite that, parts of the book were pretty cool and exciting, especially the end.

Pretty Good

Overall the story was cool and there were interesting political aspects explored that were meaningful and not just a throw away thing for a one off story. Lots of old lore was dredged up and cool references were made.
I think the only thing I wasn't a fan of was it could be really over the top *all* the time. I know it's an audio drama but it felt like every scene was all out emotion and I kept thinking "calm down man you're just talking". I know Warhammer is often over the top in a good way but some scenes felt more like the actor showing off their range than how the character should really sound, but the writing may have lent itself to that so it's not all their fault.
Still, cool audio drama and I'd recommend it, it just wasn't perfect.

Dante is Chapter Master of one of the noblest but most troubled Chapters of Space Marines in the Imperium: the Blood Angels. From the time of his birth in the rad-scarred wastes of Baal Secundus, he was destined for glory and strife. From his apotheosis to Scout, to the hive cities of Armageddon and the alien menace of the Cryptus system, Dante has waged war against all the enemies of the Imperium. He has witnessed the divine, and struggled against the darkness within all sons of Sanguinius.

Subpar for a Black Library Book
Reviewed: 05-04-23
While there is some cool battles, this book did not feel like it was written by one of the better Black Library authors. It was like someone trying to mimic them and failing. A key thing in Warhammer is going a bit over the top, but still walking the line of believable, and this author just goes way over that line at time. There's a battlefield at one point described as a carpet of space marine dead 50 bodies deep, and if you think about this massive area being 50 bodies deep, that's like more space marines than what participated in the entire battle for Cadia. Maybe I'm just overthinking the writing but I'm used to other Black Library books doing okay with details like that, and only really messing up when describing how guns work, but this one does poorly.
On top of that, I'm glad I read the Gathering Storm books before this or I'd be lost with all of the vague references to them. The book constantly nods to events that happen in them and if you hadn't read them yet, you'd think it was foreshadowing to something later in the book but they're never brought up again. Other Black Library books do nods like this, but they're very subtle and don't play as big of a part in the story as these do without going into detail about the events.
The narrator had an okay performance aside from pronoucning things incorrectly at times.
