Gave me the chills
Reviewed: 06-06-24
I liked this story because it was like watching a movie in my mind. With all of the different people, the sound effects, and background music it totally came to life. I especially liked that nothing made me cringe, like in some of the stories like this they'll have people eating and talking which I think is disgusting 😂 but nothing like that here. What stood out most was that it actually made my hairs raise. Great storyline, and I don't normally get into paranormal type stories. They usually get a bit too cheesy for me, but no cheese in this one. Definitely worth the listen! I felt this one. 👍

Story
This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams. Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.

this is a gem!! A yellow one 💛
Reviewed: 05-22-24
I've listened to so many books at this point. I love the ones that are unique in that they are refreshing in comparison to your run if the mill thriller. I love thrillers of all varieties, but this one incorporated a really fun element. It was thrilling because folklore is so interesting and magical! This story brings together the world of an artist (who stands out from the norm of society) with folklore. Two interesting stories in their own right. Also, I like that there were so many undertones of melancholy with the other characters and storylines. I'm a big fan of stories that aren't all about the boy meets girl, hero rescues those in peril, cop redeems themselves after some kind of scandal, etc etc. Those are still good stories, but not among my favorites. This story is among my favorites because of the standout quality. If you like easy listening, happily ever after stories, this one might not be for you. But if you're like me, and can appreciate when you mine a gem, do yourself a favor and give this one a listen. The first 30 mins aren't the most exciting, but still interesting getting to know the main characters story as far as who she is in "our world". But it adds to the disassociating element when she leaves our world and enters the world that's "theirs".. .That's when the real fun begins...enjoy.

Story
The "maddog" murderer who is terrorizing the Twin Cities is two things: insane and extremely intelligent. He kills for the pleasure of it and thoroughly enjoys placing elaborate obstacles to keep police befuddled. Each clever move he makes is another point of pride. But when the brilliant Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, a dedicated cop and a serial killer's worst nightmare, is brought in to take up the investigation, the maddog suddenly has an adversary worthy of his genius.

I'm disappointed
Reviewed: 05-09-24
I'm disappointed that I couldn't listen to these books. They have such good reviews, and I tried so hard...but I could not stand the narrator's wet smacking mouth sounds. To me it felt 10x worse than nails on a chalkboard, and I couldn't bear it longer than 10 seconds. I don't mean any offence to the man, it doesn't seem to bother anyone else, and I was surprised to find that no one else mentioned it in any of the reviews I read. I'm so mad because I really want to hear these stories!

Story
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

This is the only time I've returned a book. I expected so much from this!! What I got was next to nothing. I give it one star because I appreciated the way Daisy described her writing process during a few points. That was IT. The only bit I got ANYTHING out of. Honestly, I was bored to the point of annoyance and it never caught my full attention, not one single time. It was a crazy experience for me, because this was a book about a rock band with a female lead!!! Crazy because I THOUGHT it would be EVERYTHING. Man, it was NOT. This is just my opinion, I'm really not trying to be nasty or rude about it. I've read SO MANY books about rock music, I've been obsessed with the lifestyle for the LONGEST! This was just the dryest most anticlimactic book!!! I can't even believe it's so highly rated and so many people listened to it!!! Anytime I see Reese Witherspoon's club on it, I'm like "oh, yea, it's gonna be great". Uh-uh!! Not this time. I really had high hopes for this one... nerp.

Story
One conversation is all it takes to break a world wide open. Seventeen-year-old Macy Lyons has been through something no one should ever have to experience. And she's dealt with it entirely alone. On the outside, she's got it pretty good. Her family's well off, she's dating the cute boy next door, she has plenty of friends, and although she long ago wrote her mother off as a superficial gym rat, she's thankful to have allies in her loving, laid-back dad and her younger brother.

mixed feelings...
Reviewed: 05-12-22
in the beginning it was kind of hard for me to focus on it since it was like high school-ish type stuff. I did though decide to keep giving it a try because it wasn't too bad. I liked how two broken souls connected and it ended up being a positive experience... But I'm kind of like seriously where do you find a guy like that who is an addict?? especially when he had a history of anger issues... I just didn't think it was necessarily realistic how he healed so easily but that's probably my own jaded experiences clouding my judgment lol I did though really appreciate how her experiences woven into a storyline of women and their feelings of what is okay when that with the man and how to express it according to how they truly feel. It was a fairly complex storyline that I could appreciate even though it was high school kids and I felt a bit unrealistic... But I did listen to it all the way through so that must mean it held my interest enough to listen to the whole thing.

I really enjoyed this one, the narrator's voice is very pleasant which is funny because it's such a twisted plot. It came together beautifully at the end! It was one twist and turn after another and I was quite surprised. it was like a grande finale where all the plot lines wove into one big web, and I liked the way the story ended, too. I definitely recommend this one.
