Good tips offered
Reviewed: 06-03-24
I prefer dryer reading. This book has some very good tips, but I didn't care for all the personal stories intermixed into the topic at hand. Some of the stories were entertaining and funny, but some were just annoying. This book is definitely for women, and most men would not like it in my opinion.. It seemed a little over emotional and shallow to me at times. Also, the author claims to be a Christian, but she practices yoga. Yoga is a form of worship to a Hindu god. No follower of Jesus should have anything to do with yoga. I didn't really care for all the extra stuff in this book, but the author does offer some good tips to help you accomplish goals and manage your affairs more efficiently.

There’s an old saying that if the first thing you do each morning is eat a live frog, you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing you’re done with the worst thing you’ll have to do all day. For Tracy, eating a frog is a metaphor for tackling your most challenging task - but also the one that can have the greatest positive impact on your life. Eat That Frog! shows you how to organize each day so you can zero in on these critical tasks and accomplish them efficiently and effectively.

Story
Many of us know the Black Death as a catastrophic event of the medieval world. But the Black Death was arguably the most significant event in Western history, profoundly affecting every aspect of human life, from the economic and social to the political, religious, and cultural. In its wake the plague left a world that was utterly changed, forever altering the traditional structure of European societies and forcing a rethinking of every single system of Western civilization: food production and trade, the church, political institutions, law, art, and more.

This is a pretty good listen. The voice inflections are pretty annoying. The professor seems pretty dismissive of religion and other ideas, such as the effect the planets alignment have on life. All in all, there was some pretty good info offered.

Story
In the tradition of Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes and Alice Taylor’s To School Through the Fields, Tom Phelan’s We Were Rich and We Didn't Know It is a heartfelt and masterfully written memoir of growing up in Ireland in the 1940s. We Were Rich and We Didn't Know It recounts Tom’s upbringing in an isolated, rural community from the day he was delivered by the local midwife. With tears and laughter, it speaks to the strength of the human spirit in the face of life's adversities.

Well done

I really enjoyed the style this book was written in. This book is written in a different way than the previous 3 books by Matt Bracken. Matt did a great job making the characters more realistic because of their imperfections. Matt did a good job describing disturbing circumstances of kidnapped victims without giving too many disturbing details. I highly recommend reading this book. It is very well done and the narration was great too.

Foreign Enemies and Traitors is set in the near future in an America that is creeping steadily toward socialist tyranny, in the midst of the second Great Depression. A year after earthquakes have devastated the Tennessee Valley, survivors are resisting demands by the federal government to relocate to FEMA refugee centers. United States National Guard units have proven ineffective at forcing these survivors out of the earthquake-damaged regions, due to their reluctance to employ deadly force against fellow Americans.
