I was ecstatic when I learned new work from Allen Eskens was on the way, and this book was just as great as expected; possibly more so. Easy to listen to and captivating; it’s another five-star for me. Can’t wait for the next one!

It’s an easy listen, but not one I’d listen to again. The narration was excellent!
The first half of the book had me hooked, but by the end, I was left feeling...cheated? Unfulfilled? This could’ve been an awesome book but it was like the author gave up or ran out of ideas halfway through and just threw an ending in there with no “ah ha!” moment. This one was just too easy to figure out, and I hoped and hoped that I was wrong.

I bought this book on a whim for a road trip. Although easy listening, I wanted to give up after the first three hours. It wasn’t that it was boring, it just didn’t seem like it was going anywhere, and kept repeating things. I’m SO GLAD I stuck with it! This turned out to be a great story with some incredible twists that I never saw coming. Will be looking to read more from the author.

Did I read the wrong book?

I, although hesitantly, bought this book because I was promised a “fast-paced book FILLED with twists”. Every hour that passed, I found myself saying “ok, HERE comes a twist! Get ready for it!” but, alas, the only twist was at the end, and any real fan of the genre will figure it out long before it is revealed, and be left feeling...gypped? Ripped off? Less than fulfilled? Maybe I just zoned out too many times due to boredom to fully appreciate this lackluster mess.

Usually, I like longer books because the shorter ones always feel rushed and missing details. This one was not like that, and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.
It is very well written, and set at a perfect pace. The twists were just right and not at all over or underdone, and I loved the ending. The narrator sometimes sounds bored, but that didn’t turn me off of the book.
I highly recommend!

My first attempt at listening this, I only got to the eighth chapter before turning it off. It starts out so slow, with what seems like completely unnecessary details.
A couple of months after that initial try, I tried again, determined to give it more of a chance this time. I was not disappointed when finished!
An excellent book about love, betrayal, narcissism, and greed. I give 4.5 stars, just because the first, probably, 10 chapters are almost unbearable. Lol

I got this book by accident but decided to give it a go, although the summary didn’t make it sound super interesting. It was a little slow to start, and you have to really pay attention because the author sometimes switches characters mid-chapter, but it turned out to be a brilliant story. I only gave 4 stars because of the slow start, which wasn’t even close to the worst I’ve ever heard, but, all-in-all, I’d rate this book a 4.6/5.
Also, the narration is perfect. I’ll be listening to more books narrated by Karen Cass just because I love her voice.

I’m not sure what all the hype is about - this book was so drawn out and boring until the last two hours. I wanted to ditch it after two hours of boredom, but held out, in vain, for that “ah ha! Didn’t see that coming” moment the reviews promised. Any true suspense junkie will have the horribly lackluster ending figured out for sure with at least 3 hours left in the book. The worst thing about this book was how much unnecessary detail was put into parts of the story that didn’t matter, but you are left hanging on other “important” parts with very little background information.

This is my first Harlan Coben book and it just may be my last. The first six hours were almost too insufferable to finish. The main character, Mya, has an unbelievably horrid “I’m better than you because I was in the military, everyone do what I say even though I’m a witch” attitude.
It did take me a little longer, but I figured out the twist long before the ending. Not really a shocker.
All of the male characters sounded exactly alike. They were supposed to be late 20s-30s, but ALL sounded like they were 17. Even the 60+ year old man was given the same narration.
