Story
Armon Ellington died on Earth and was transported to Terra, a world governed by rules eerily similar to the RPG games he loved. He found he could gain levels, skills, abilities, and magic just like he could in those games. In addition to finding a way to become more powerful, he also found the friends and family he'd always longed for. Unfortunately, he also discovered the pain of losing them.

Not good...
Reviewed: 08-14-18
Where to begin. The writing is almost childish. Way to many attempts at being cute or funny that fail. The repetitive reading of the stats, skills and inventory pages seem to be there simply to fill pages. The story drags on through an entire "adventure" that seems to have nothing to do with advancing the plot line. The narrator give foolish voices to some of the characters and makes the kobald sound like a 6 year old child. Trying to read everything in a male voice because the main character is male come off as simply trying to hard to make it work. The narrative part, not voices or thoughts, would have been better served if she had done it in her ouw voice. I have listened to multiple books where the narrator and the main character is of opposite gender and they are fine when read in a natural voice. Don't know if I will buy the 3rd book or not....but probably not.

Great story
Reviewed: 07-04-17
Very well written. Even with much less action the book was no less enjoyable. The world and characters come to life easily. The low point is another weak performance by Mr Webber. His reading is flat and matter of fact with little emotion much like his Warrior performance. Both books would have been better served with a more animated reading.

Writer grasping
Reviewed: 06-28-16
IMO the writer was grasping for anything to fill up the pages. Long in depth tangents over actions that were far less important to the story than the time spent on them would lead you to believe. Scenes drag on for pages sometimes that again have little bearing on the overall story be it physical or inner termoil of the heroine. The feeling is similar to the horrible 3rd book of the divergent series but is not near as bad. The writer seemed pressed to finish the series regardless of quality. The narrator though better than the first book is strill the weakest link even given the less than average book 3.

Story
In the first installment of the A Fire Beneath the Skin trilogy, the city of Klaar has never fallen. No enemy has ever made it across the Long Bridge or penetrated the city's mighty walls. Even when a powerful invading army shows up at the gates, the duke and his daughter, Rina Veraiin, are certain that it poses little threat. But they are cruelly betrayed from within and, in a horrific spasm of violence, the city is brought to its knees.

Better narration needed
Reviewed: 06-26-16
The story itself is enjoyable but not spectacular. Some things seem far fetched even for a fantasy novel and the constant sexual scenes add nothing to the story line save for one. The bigger problem was the narrator. Odd pauses where you wonder if she lost her place for a moment. Wierd and inconsistent voices for characters sometimes having to listend to it twice to figure out what was said. Strange pronunciations of some words as well and quite monotonic. Hopefully the second book will be better read.

A great story with strong characters.
Reviewed: 06-02-16
The story was compelling and gripping. The main character has depth with both strengths and weaknesses. The development of the main and supporting characters was well done so as to give enough to understand them but not so much there wouldn't be more to tell. The narrator was terrific! I found myself getting lost in the story. A must read!

Did someone listen to this before it's release?
Reviewed: 08-22-15
i had read the trilogy many years ago and enjoyed it. Typical fantasy adventure novel so nothing really special about it. Narrator was aweful. The voices were inconsistent and quite often robotic. The reading often times was rovotic as well. The effort to annunciate every syllable and sometimes even every letter was almost excruciating. There was no tenderness in the voice during emotional moments, no excitement of voice during tense and/or battle situations. At times the reader seemed completely bored and couldn't wait to get it over with. "B" for the book but an "F" for the reading.

One long fight
Reviewed: 08-11-15
This book is one long fight scene beginning to end. Couple that with the horrible performance by the reader makes this a really hard, almost painful listen. Voices are inconsistent and aweful. Magic, and especially Spellfore, are far too powerful and abundant. Cults that were out of the pursuit are suddenly back in without explanation. As poor as the book was, the performance was worse.

It can lay low a dragon or heal a wounded warrior. It is the most sought-after magical power in all Faern. And it is in the reluctant hands of Shandril of Highmoon, a young, orphaned kitchen-lass. Now she's on the run from half of the evil sorcerers in the land, not to mention their relentless minions. But with the help of a handsome young wizard, some rough-and-tumble Knights of Myth Drannor, and a certain old mage of Shadowdale, she just might manage to stay alive. At least until tomorrow.

A complete jumble
Reviewed: 04-10-15
The narrators did the best with what they had to work with. Unfortunately that wasn't a whole lot. The ease at which strong characters cave, the alliances made with only a few days to get to know people and the utter lack of common sense from leaders is disappointing. It seemed like the writer was struggling to decide which way to go so she threw in as many twists, no matter how unlikely, she could. probably to try and mask the lack of direction the plot was going. The ending is the least of the issues.
