About this listen

Kazgoroth, the Beast, has come into the world to destroy the power of the Earthmother. Changing its shape as needs be, the Beast goes across the island of Gwynneth, corrupting everything in its way. Its destination is a large gathering of Northmen raiders at Oman's Isle, in the middle of the Moonshaes, where they are preparing an assault on the kingdom of Corwell. The Northmen don't realize yet that this is going to be more than just a plundering raid. They don't know that their leader isn't King Thelgaar Ironhand, but the Beast, who has killed the king and assumed his shape.Meanwhile, the Earthmother, aware of the danger and hurting from the corruption brought to the land, her body, by the vile presence of the Beast, awakes her children - the Leviathan, the Pack, and Kamerynn, the Unicorn. They will try to stop Kazgoroth in different ways, but that won't be enough. At Caer Corwell, the seat of the king of Corwell, rumour brings word of war coming to the kingdom. Preparation is under way, but the Ffolk don't know where the enemy will strike. It is up to Tristan to organize the Ffolk against this both human and demonic threat. In his fight against the odds, helped by Robyn, he will grow into the responsible leader that should inherit his father's kingdom.

i had read the trilogy many years ago and enjoyed it. Typical fantasy adventure novel so nothing really special about it. Narrator was aweful. The voices were inconsistent and quite often robotic. The reading often times was rovotic as well. The effort to annunciate every syllable and sometimes even every letter was almost excruciating. There was no tenderness in the voice during emotional moments, no excitement of voice during tense and/or battle situations. At times the reader seemed completely bored and couldn't wait to get it over with. "B" for the book but an "F" for the reading.

Did someone listen to this before it's release?

love the story which i read after trying this abomination. Im hoping this was a digital version of some 80s book on tape.. Who decided this narrator was it And which kindergarten did they hire her from?

worst narator ever

great book

The narrator really ruined this for me. I was reminded more of popcorn reading during a high school literature class than listening to a professional audiobook.

the fuhfoke

The story I really enjoyed but the narration is problematic for me. There are several parts where it sounds like they went back and made edits for single words or entire sentences. These parts cause a break in the flow and made it hard to listen to for me. It wouldn't be so bad but the overall sound is completely different from the story to the edits.

Good story but broken narration

This story is just fine. Not an award winning fantasy tale by any means. But it is a nice introduction into the Forgotten Realms of Dungeons and Dragons. The narrator however is horrendous! Her pronunciations and poor inflections nearly ruin the whole story.

Horrible Narration

I couldn’t focus on the story because the narrator was so annoying and took me out of the story with her weird reading style and inflections- they were never natural, and never felt like they were cadenced at the right moments.

The terrible narrator that ruined my reading experience

Would you try another book from Douglas Niles and/or Dara Rosenberg?

Dara Rosenberg mispronounces several words. She confuses the front of a boat with a twisted bunch of ribbon. There are others but that one really sticks out. She also has very annoying "voices".

Would you be willing to try another book from Douglas Niles? Why or why not?

I like Douglas Niles' writing. Sure it is a bit heavy handed and very lite but I still like it.

What didn’t you like about Dara Rosenberg’s performance?

It's ending. Very painful.

Did Darkwalker on Moonshae inspire you to do anything?

No.

Horrible Narrator

The peoples of the Moonshae are interesting and I feel hold many stories yet to be told. In Darkwalker on Moonshae we are introduced to a few people of the Moonshine and their battle with the support of nature protectors against a Darkness that is trying to take the souls of the people of the Moonshae. I highly recommend this first book of the Moonshae's.

The Peoples of The Moonshae Are Interesting

A terrific fantasy tale, Dougla Niles takes a spoiled prince of an island nation and raises him to learn responsibility and earn respect in an adventure against an awakened and growing evil with the aid of a small group of allies and a weakened and failing godess.

Unfortunately narrated by Dara Rosenberg who's talent cannot match the material. Her cadence is mechanical with so much emphasis on enunciation that she sacrifices emotional and storyline flow. In some places it sounds as if the speed was increased in editing to generate a higher frequency for the voice of a diminutive character than actually changing her own voice to do it.

I can honestly say that this is the worst narration I've heard from Audible. This means there's every hope that further books will only get better from here.

If I had not read the books years ago, this narration would be a deal breaker. However, the books are so enjoyable that I am willing to put up with this to hear the tale once again. If I could find this book in large print (a necessity for me these days), I would not buy the audio version.
