Such a fun & great read! I read it in one day between the audiobook & physical copy.
I wish it had been a full cast but the narrator Emili Ellet was amazing. I will have to listen to all of the other books she has narrated!

Ok book with too much hype

This book & series has a crazy amount of hype around it. Everyone loves or hates it.
I feel pretty meh about it.
The main character is not my favorite, a love triangle is thrown in & its not necessary, and the world building was lacking.
The beginning was very cringey & best part was the last 3rd.

I do want to read the rest of the series to know if I like other books better hence the 3 instead of 2 stars.

All of Anna-Marie McLemore’s books are amazing magical realism, own voices, with latinx & queer characters. This work did not disappoint!

Neoteny: Poems was a 5 star read!

The 34 poems in this collection are all impressive, no duds or fillers! Emily covers daily life, shares anecdotes, features her guide dog York, and family tales.

I especially enjoyed the various poems about her love story. We can all relate to the beautiful moments & feelings her poems evoke.
I now NEED her to write a screenplay or fun sweet romantic comedy novel!

Neoteny: Poems is a wonderful collection of poems centering on ecology, disability, and music.

I just LOVED this book! The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is the kind of book I just couldn’t put down!

Monique Grant is a new journalist at her magazine when she is chosen to interview reclusive Hollywood legend Evelyn Hugo! Evelyn shares her life story & it turns out she is more than just a Hollywood creation.
Evelyn Hugo is a fictional character but she reminds me of Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, and Greta Garbo.
This book has diverse characters from various communities and does discuss some trauma Evelyn faced that many people do deal with. TW for domestic violence & abuse.
I honestly loved this book & am so glad I finally read it!!

This book was on my radar but it disappointed me.

That said:
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms is a good book. It introduces us to Yeine Darr, a member of the Darr & sky ruling families. She feels like an outcast as both a biracial member of both royal families and as a Darr woman in the Sky society. Our story starts when she is summoned to the main Kingdom of the hundred thousand kingdoms: sky and is made to compete to be the main heir of the throne (among 2 other heirs).
She makes unstable allies: the Enefadah gods who are enslaved by the Sky family & have been enslaved since losing the war against the main god.
TW for sexual violence, violence in general, use of the word "savage," suicidal thoughts, & more.
