Radical. Crazy. Transformative and restless. Every word we read these days seems to suggest there's a "next-best-thing", if only we would change our comfortable, compromising lives. In fact, the greatest fear most Christians have is boredom - the sense that they are missing out on the radical life Jesus promised. One thing is certain. No one wants to be "ordinary".

Story
Among Americans, diabetes is more prevalent today than ever. Obesity is at epidemic proportions; nearly 10% of children are thought to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. And sugar is at the root of these, and other, critical, society-wide, health-related problems. With his signature command of both science and straight talk, Gary Taubes delves into Americans' history with sugar: its uses as a preservative, as an additive in cigarettes, the contemporary overuse of high-fructose corn syrup.

Story
Is it possible to disagree politically and love unconditionally? The reaction of evangelicals to political and cultural shifts in recent years revealed what they value most. Lurking beneath our Bible-laced rhetoric, faith claims, books, and sermons is a relentless drive to WIN! But the church is not here to win. By every human measure, our Savior lost. On purpose. With a purpose. And we are his body. We are not in it to win anything. We are in it for something else entirely. That something else is what this book is about.

He discusses ancient guided tours of heaven and hell, in which a living person observes the sublime blessings of heaven for those who are saved and the horrifying torments of hell for those who are damned.

Story
What if the Trinity we've been taught is not the Trinity of the Bible? In this groundbreaking book, Matthew Barrett reveals a shocking discovery: We have manipulated the Trinity, recreating the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in our own image. We have distorted the biblical, orthodox Trinity to justify our countless social agendas. With clarity, creativity, and conviction Barrett mines the scriptures as well as the creeds and confessions of the faith to help you rediscover the beauty and simplicity of our Triune God.

Story
New Testament scholar N. T. Wright reveals how we have been misreading the Gospels for centuries, powerfully restoring the lost central story of the scripture: that the coronation of God through the acts of Jesus was the climax of human history. Wright fills the gaps that centuries of misdirection have opened up in our collective spiritual story, tracing a narrative from Eden to Jesus to today.

Understanding the Kingdom of God
Reviewed: 05-02-20
I appreciate the focus of The Kingdom of God coming to earth as Jesus King of heaven and earth. I appreciate the focus of linking the Jewish history in the coming of the Messiah. i appreciate the linking of the Kingdom with the cross and how they work hand in hand. It seemed to me the book spent to much time on the problem of ignoring the kingdom, but not enough time on what that means for Christians to work out in their day to day living. I would have liked it if the author had given more personal examples of kingdom living to show how that works today.
