Never Saw it Coming!
Reviewed: 04-27-25
Another extraordinary book by Jess Ryder! I never would have guessed the ending. There were so many twists and turns throughout the entire book I wasn’t even able to guess the ending,
The book switches from present to past and towards the end the switch seemed to happen in much smaller intervals and made it a little confusing but a few seconds I was caught up.
I’m going to listen to the book again now that I know the ended to see if I missed clues that could have predicted the ending.

Did The Truth Come Out?
Reviewed: 03-10-24
As always, wonder author Alafair Burke has you drawn in from the beginning, continuous twist and turns throughout the book and totally surprised when the truth comes out; but did ALL the truth came out? In the last chapter more information comes to light and has me wondering who really killed one of the characters. I don’t want to stay too much to spoil any parts of the book but I promise you won’t be disappointed. It has taken me 15 years to find an author whose books I’m obsessed with and have read/listened to multiple times. Alafair Burke has a talent that makes all her books wonderfully unique (this book was part of a series so there was some similarities but compared to her other books, outside of them being the best book you ever read, you would have no idea the same author is being all of these books).

Good Not Great
Reviewed: 12-08-23
I’ve enjoyed all of Freida McFadden’s books that I’ve listened to but this one really didn’t pull me in until the last couple chapters and when the character Rosalie told her story I had to push through bc it was so depressing and the details just went on and on. I wasn’t a fan of the narrator’s voice, I think this also played into the book feeling so heavy and dark in a sad/depressing way. I found it hard to connect with any of the characters enough to have one that I enjoyed. The “twists” didn’t come until the end and for me they weren’t predictable, however, this will not stop me from selecting and other Freida McFadden book.

Story
Of course, I’m not going to murder her in the night. I need my laptop back first. That’s the whole point of making friends with Emily Harper, author of the hugely successful novel Diary of an Octopus. So I could get into her apartment and take back what’s mine. Emily doesn’t know who I really am. She thinks I’m her biggest fan, her new best friend who happens to need a place to stay for a few days. She doesn’t realize the laptop she found—and took—from a busy airport almost two years ago was mine. I don’t care about the laptop, just what's on it: my diary.

Highly recommend this book, you wont be disappointed, even those who can predict every ending, I was very surprised by the amount of times that I thought I knew and turns out I didn't. I could not stop listening, (I've had less than five books this year be this addictive and I average 2-3 books a month), the narrator's voice was easy to listen and the author's use of imagery made it easy to "see" these characters in my head which of course drew my in more. This book is movie material, I'm going to check out more books by this author and hope to enjoys others as much as I did this one.

Surprisingly Amazing Book!
Reviewed: 07-29-23
I chose this book because I’m from Cincinnati, if you are reading this and from Cincinnati, stop reading this and go listen to the book, you will love it!
I am not a history seeker, you will never find me reading 100% true history books. I’m an intense physiological thriller reading and after reading so many, you need a break. It was hard to believe I was listening to historical fiction, the narrator’s voice is wonderful to listen to. I lost track of how many “yay, they’re doing it” then “dang, that’s going to set them back” moment there were. There were so many that as things started going well, I would stop what I was doing and held my breath in suspense, waiting to hear what happens. The downfalls they had were astonishing! After hearing some of them I was absolutely shocked.
This totally raised the bar of historical fiction for me. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

On The Edge Of My Seat Till The End!
Reviewed: 12-07-19
This book might be loved by females more. I found myself pulled into just like the journalist in the story waiting to hear what the secret was which was not shared until the end. BUT while there was this unknown hanging throughout the book there were constant twists and turns with ever chapter leading up to the big reveal that made my mouth dropped and saying “dam! Didn’t see that coming!” AND there were still more intense “what’s going to happen” moments after the secret was revealed. The author tiptoed around a few “controversial” topics (I use quotes bc they were very light topics) but in a way that you have no idea what the authors personal beliefs are and I think how the topics were brought up actually drew you into the story more bc it made you think differently as you find these characters in the “grey space” vs black and white. Anyway, HIGHLY recommend this book! Especially if you find yourself even lightly enjoying reading or watching the lives of the reach and famous and by famous I mean iconic. I finished this book in record time bc I was so drawn in. Lastly, even though there were some deaths, they were at the very end which I appreciated bc it allowed me to really enjoy the book and not mourn someone who died in the first chapter and then entire book is based on that. The sad parts were infrequent and came and went fast which I appreciated.

Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

Extremely addicting! The use of multiple narrators makes it feel like you are right there, watching everything unfold. I developed feelings for the characters and when someone got in trouble I wanted to help them! THIS is NOT me! I normally don’t get wrapped up in books like this. Highly recommend!

Book was engaging and gripping the entire time. Several times I thought I knew where the author was going but each time she proved me wrong by adding little twists and turns throughout the book. The author did a great job of making the characters come alive and creating a connection with them to further drag you in.
Highly recommend this book! I am going to check out more books by this author to see if they are all just as good!

Good Story but Random
Reviewed: 03-14-19
Overall a good book. The book kept my interest and I went through it fairly quickly. However I never felt connected or in touch with any of the characters or the setting so everything just seemed like it “randomly” happened. I kept waiting for the moment to happen where I got completely drawn in but it never came.

Great; Not Over the Top
Reviewed: 02-08-19
I really enjoyed this book and finishing it in less than two weeks is proof of that. This book is categorized as a psychological thriller which I will agree but it I will say it's not "over the top". I have listened to some that were so unique and bizarre I would freeze in spot, mouth open and listen. This book did NOT have that effect on me. I wouldn't go as far as to say that it was "predictable", however, it was a more "yeah, I can see that". I am having a hard time articulating a review for this book and not sure why. Maybe because I didn't find there to be any jaw dropping moments in the book, but again, I still enjoyed it.
