Nothing good ever comes from drinking a box of wine alone. So when I decided to entertain my drunken self by setting up some hand-me-down podcasting equipment and reading the steamy parts from romance novels, I never thought anyone would actually listen. The fact that I admitted my huge crush on my sexy next door neighbor made the whole thing even more mortifying. But sometimes life surprises you, and that’s how my podcast, Heidi’s Discount Erotica, was born. Now I, Heidi Larsen, a sweet former kindergarten teacher in Waconia, Minnesota, lead a scandalous double life.

I loved this book! First of all Andy Arnt is an amazing narrator. She is funny and her timing is perfect and she nailed the Midwestern accent perfectly in this book. I’m happy to know that she helped write the book. That’s cool! Secondly, I listen to this book in my earbuds while I was getting my tires changed at a less Schwab. I was sitting at the table, laughing out loud like a lunatic. After some of the heavy books that I have been reading lately, this was a fabulous palate cleanser. Chase away all your blues. Enjoy the book!

I have liked this book series, but this book was a disappointment. I am all for body positivity, but wow, was there a lot of repetition in this book!!! it felt like every other sentence was a repeat of the sentence before it just written slightly differently. The performance was good, but the book was so hard to get through because it was just such a repetitive mess.

This book was really honest. The relationships between all the characters were honest. It didn’t feel rived. It didn’t feel overly bright and happy. It excepted the ugly and the fear of being in relationships. Really beautiful.

Fun series!
Reviewed: 07-09-24
Having read all 10 books of the series so far, I really do enjoy it. The main issue that I have with the whole series is continuity and editing. In between one of the books and the very next book, there is a major continuity issue. Cassie at the end of one book discovers that emergency medicine is where her heart lies, but at the very beginning of the next book, she is unsure of emergency medicine. In addition to continuity issues like this, editing is a fairly major problem. Over and over and over the author states the same things said slightly differently. If the editor really knew what they were doing, they would have deleted one or two or three or more of these issues.
Also, another gripe I have is what happened to Cassie’s best friend the Australian doctor in training? She just flat out doesn’t exist in the last three books.
On the whole, however, these books are really fun. The characters are great, and each mystery is enjoyable.

From way up high she sees man in a dark coat shoot another man dead, but by the time she arrives back on the ground, Eleanor can find no trace of the body. Just the broken piece of a pearl necklace clasp, trodden into the dirt.

The performer killed it for me. And not in a good way.
Reviewed: 12-25-23
I think the storyline was probably good, but the narrator was so punchy and exuberant that it ruined the book for me, she seemed to want to drive home, every word, and it just didn’t fit the feel of a mystery. I found myself enjoying some of the writing and character, but the narrator is so unenjoyable for me that I don’t want to continue with the series. I’m sad because I really love mystery series with strong, female character leads set in the 20s.
