Story
Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be. But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.

I loved this Book!
Reviewed: 01-10-23
I love the narration and the author. Some of the story line is very sensitive, but I loved the closeness and love that Harley(Lee) and Cali had for one another. I also loved Walter's support of not only Lee, his wife, but his wife's sister. Glad all the bad actors got their reaping for what they had sown.

Story
Environmental devastation and economic chaos have turned America into a land of horrifying depravity. Assault, theft, sexual abuse, slavery, and murder are commonplace. And a zealous, bigoted tyrant has won his way into the White House. Directly opposed is Lauren Olamina, founder of Earthseed - a new faith that teaches "God Is Change". Persecuted for "heathen" beliefs as much as for having a Black female leader, Earthseed's followers face a life-and-death struggle to preserve their vision.

Advance Glance Into America
Reviewed: 07-28-22
The uncannily way this book seems to correlate to the future of what America may come to be is sorta scary, but definitely believable. I sincerely hope this book does not come to fruition, but based on current and recent past events, I can see how this could happen. I never thought a book could be so futuristic, but current. I loved the narration, I wished Lauren and Larkin/Ausha would have had a better relationship. I hate that Mark turned on Lauren for the CCA, but the Bible does talk about the love of the greater number cooling off. Where mother will be against daughter and father against son. Great story.

Story
God is change. That is the central truth of the Earthseed movement, whose unlikely prophet is 18-year-old Lauren Olamina. The young woman's diary entries tell the story of her life amid a violent 21st-century hell of walled neighborhoods and drug-crazed pyromaniacs - and reveal her evolving Earthseed philosophy. Against a backdrop of horror emerges a message of hope: if we are willing to embrace divine change, we will survive to fulfill our destiny among the stars.

This story was fascinating, although I get upset sometimes when I sit and think about what slaves had to endure. I couldn't imagine being someone else's property and experiencing the atrocities that chatel slavery caused people who look like me.

This memoir was a great listen. There were times that I wanted to come through for Cupcake and stick up for her, but there were other times that I wanted to shake some sense into her. It is truly inspiring to see that she never allowed what she went through to keep her from being who she became. I am grateful that she found her tribe and they were there to help her pick up the pieces of the puzzle and make a beautiful finished product.
