The story was okay. It held my interest, but it was nothing special. Just a lot of stupid people making really stupid decisions. The narrators were a mixed bag. I liked the narrator for Meredith, but the narrator for Kate had inflections in her voice that made her sound like a teenager who did not want to be here.

Bad narration, cute story
Reviewed: 10-28-24
The virtual voice narration was really bad on this. The voice didn't match the character at all, and the way it pronounced the word "hayride" was really annoying (that word comes up about 200 times in this story, so it's a bigger problem than you would think). Despite the rough narration, this was a cute story. I loved the Fall setting. The characters were likeable. I plan on continuing the series.

The story was really good, but the narration really brought this one to the next level. The demon voice was perfect. Some of the best narration I've ever heard.

Story
The dense Michigan forest. Haunting wails. The clip-clop of demon hooves on a bridge to nowhere. It’s more than a tall tale to Brenda Jennings, whose sister disappeared in those woods one fateful night. Three years later, on a solo stakeout in the dark, Brenda goes in after her. She’s desperate for answers, and terrified to find what lies waiting on the other side of that bridge.

This was a pretty good short story. The pauses were so long between sentences, each sentence sounded like the end of a chapter. That drove me nuts. The scary voice redeemed the narration for me, though.

This was a Hallmark movie without the charm. It took me FOREVER to get through this book. I should have just DNFed it. I'm not sure why the guy in this book loved the girl so much. Maybe it was her beauty. Maybe it was the magic. I can tell you it certainly wasn't her personality.

This was a good cozy mystery. Exactly what you would expect. I just wish they would get TJ's poor sisters a different guardian. I feel so bad that their mom is dead and now TJ, who is supposed to be taking care of them, is off investigating murders just for fun with all of her free time. Give the dad custody or something. Other than that, I like this series.
