Not what I was expecting

This was one weird book. I was expecting a sweet romance when it was mostly weird sex and weird storyline with not a lot of explanations. I love the authors other series so assumed this would be sorta similar. Nope, not at all like Murder Sprees series. Weird BDSM type moments, with an almost DD/LB but also not. Weird world building that was confusing or just strange. Not a bad book and I toughed it out to finish it hoping it would eventually turn out good. But nope. 75 year old vampire sex king gets with his wife’s 25 yr old child from another relationship, and the 25 yr old is addicted to sex, uses a pacifier and has been locked into a commune abused and uneducated. Just weird premise and not what it seemed like from the blurb.

What started out in book one as a bit of fluff is really turning into a well thought out series with, while predictable, twists and turns the end is still no where near and lots of more information and intrigue to go.

This is the first book by this author that I have read/listened to. There is not very much storyline going on here and it’s 85% intimate scenes. I’m very much bothered by the fact that these men who are apparently a n the bdsm scene and they do not discuss anything before it happening, or very very little anyway. That is not done in RL, and the entire mix up would have been cleared up sooner. I hope that readers to not think this is ok in RL because it isn’t and you would be kicked out or at the very least have a bad reputation. But all that aside, what is with the word BULGE, it is literally said so many times I started to think maybe it was part of their anatomy, like maybe that is what the author was saying their knot came from, until it was mentioned with Dillon and I realized nope that is just the only word the author was able to come up with, and they say it probably 100 times, at least. It’s enough that I almost stopped listening to the book because I was so sick of hearing the same word used. So I am not sure that I will ever listen to this again, because I prefer my books to have plot. 4 hours in and they literally know nothing about each other besides their job and their names. That’s it, but they have been with each other, it was 4 hours of scenes and about 15 mins of anything else and most of that was in such minute detail that I was bored. If you just want intimate se x scenes this is the book for you, if you want plot, skip this one.

Epic ending with a very cool plot ending. Wish it wasn’t the last of Miles and Cade but what a way to go!

Another Great One

This takes place 6 yrs from the original series and contains most of the characters in small parts except the Mannix Ghosts which is kinda sad that we didn’t get to see them. But this is about the collective so people directly related to it is probably more relevant. I had hoped that when Mark was introduced that he would get his story and I was really happy to find out we did. It was very cute and his grumpiness is hilarious. I do kind of wish we got a bit more of them falling in love, versus hearing about it 2 months in, what it was they loved about the other etc. that felt a little skipped over, but once I let that go I just sat back and enjoyed the story and about the updates to the Demon Human truce formed in earlier events. They make a cute couple and I liked how their relationship wrapped up with a HEA. The switch to Greg from Nick as narrator was a surprise, but as it’s mostly different characters it wasn’t a big deal but ironically, Greg was able to very ably replicate Norval’s voice, and since he was the one with the most recognizable accent and the main returning character besides the MC I was pleasantly surprised. I would have recognized his voice even if I wasn’t told who the character was. Greg and Nick are always fantastic so I was ok with the switch even though I was a bit surprised.

What an incredible start to a series! Interesting and relatable characters and a very strong independent female lead which is very hard to find, except not here or in Elizabeth’s other book Mave Fortune. Moving on to book two.

This was adorable, while also sweetly showing how neurodivergent people struggle but can be amazing in how we think differently, and how we are worth adjusting your expectations in order to have a great relationship. Rush is so sweet and Hunter making sure he knew how best to work with him was lovely. Ian was a terrible and I’m glad he got his, and I love that Rush’s way of thinking is what thought it up.

While I’m not a huge fan of instalove I can go along with it if the story is good enough. But this….this was not a story. It was basically erotica with very very little world building and considering how complicated this world seems to be, it needed it.

Much didn’t really make sense, he’s travelled for years and absolutely no one is called to him and then suddenly he gets 4 in 24 hours? In minutes they are admitting they are in love, and throwing their lives in with him. It felt like the little bit of plot was rushed and even in that, they are running and fighting for their lives but stop on the road to sate themselves? It just wasn’t actually a book it was just scenes to get to the next love scene. I can not recommend this to anyone wanting a real plot.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book but it was so sweet and heartwarming. While there is talk of a horrific end to a previous cage mate that made me ill to consider (so read warnings as it’s violent and for anyone that has been abused it may be a trigger) the book is well worth it. The story is very interesting. You have Pykh who is so innocent but intelligent and loving that it breaks your heart, you have Seil who is military and quite a bit of a pessimist about their situation rightly so, and then you have Carter who is far tougher than they expect. It’s quite adorable how these two treat their omega thinking he is a pampered weakling, but that they must obey him is a interesting quirk to the story. There is some dominance and subby tendencies with this entire romance which I’m digging! The smaller male being the one to rule over them by complete accident is hilarious!
